A Beginners Guide to Using Twitter to Market Your Business

A Beginners Guide to Using Twitter to Market Your Business

Social Media is a key marketing tool for a lot of companies, but it can seem daunting at first. Twitter especially can be hard to get your head around, so I’ve put together this beginners guide on how to use Twitter to market your business.

1. Set up an account: You may have a personal twitter account, but set up a separate account just for your business. You don’t have to tweet from this yourself necessarily.

2. Choose an image: Just like any other social media profile, choose an image that represents your business in the best way possible. Your logo, or an image of the person tweeting from the account are good options.

3. Fill out your bio: This is really important as it’s the first thing people will see when they come across your page. Make sure you include what your business offers and where you’re based in this section as there’s limited space!

4. Get tweeting: Think about what your followers would want to read – try and offer information that they wouldn’t find elsewhere (i.e not just links to your blog posts). You can also tweet about current affairs, ask questions and retweet other relevant tweets to get started!

5. Find followers: Just like Facebook and Instagram, finding followers on Twitter

Twitter is a micro-blogging service that allows you to send and receive messages to anyone who subscribes to your feed. Twitter’s greatest strength is its ability to connect with people on a personal level.

I know what you are thinking, how can I use this Twitter thing to market my business? Well the good news is that Twitter can be used in a number of different ways, depending on what you want to achieve. You could use it as an instant customer feed back channel, or send out marketing messages to your customers and potential customers. In this blog we are going to look at how Twitter can be used in both of these ways.

Before we get into how Twitter can be used as a marketing tool, let’s just quickly go over how Twitter works. When you sign up for Twitter you will be asked for a username and password, once you have entered those details and clicked submit you will have your own account set up. From there it’s time to start following other users so that their Tweets (Twitter messages) will appear on your homepage. Now it’s time for others to follow you so that when ever you post a Tweet it will appear on their homepages. It’s all pretty simple really.

Twitter for Business

I have been asked about the benefits of Twitter and how to use it for business. So here goes……….

Twitter is a micro blogging site where you can post short 140 character messages. It is the latest social media tool that is not only great for your personal life, but can also be used as a marketing tool for your business.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a place where you can update your status in text message format, we call these updates “tweets” and users can follow you on twitter or you can follow other users. You can tweet anything from “having a coffee with friends” to “my new blog article just went live”– it really is up to you what you tweet.

How many people have twitter?

As of January 2010 there are more than 75 million users on Twitter and growing daily!
