As Halloween approaches, I can’t help but think about the costumes that I would have loved to wear as a child. Many of those childhood favorites are still my go-to costumes now, but my tastes have definitely changed over time.
From dressing up like cartoon characters like Betty Boop and Minnie Mouse, I’ve gone on to create more realistic costumes. When I was a kid, I remember seeing movies like Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride and wanting to dress up exactly like the characters.
Now as an adult, I’m able to create these outfits for myself using makeup! The greatest thing about using makeup for your costume is that it’s so versatile. You can basically do anything you want with it.
This year, I decided to be creative and use makeup to create my own version of the Corpse Bride from Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride.” For this costume, I wanted to keep everything else simple so that all the focus would be on the makeup.
I started by creating a skeleton face using white face paint and black eyeshadow. Next, I used pink lipstick around my mouth and black lipstick on the rest of my lips. Then, I took a piece of black lace fabric and wrapped it around my neck as a veil.
If you’re like me, you wait until the last minute to come up with a Halloween costume. But if you’re also like me, you’ll forget that fact year after year and fail to adequately plan for the holiday. I’ve been known to throw on some cat ears and call it a day. I’ve also been known to cobble together a costume using supplies found around my apartment.

The Corpse Bride is a 2005 British-American computer-animated musical fantasy film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton, with a screenplay by John August. The film was produced and conceived by Burton and based on characters created by him and Carlos Grangel.
The plot follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), a young man who finds himself betrothed to a corpse bride (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (voice: Emily Watson), waits bereft in the land of the living. This is Burton’s first stop-motion feature film from Warner Bros., as well as the first of his films to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures instead of Walt Disney Pictures. The studio acquired the rights for Corpse Bride for US$20 million.
Corpse Bride is filled with allusions to other popular works, especially those created by Burton, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice.
