What You Need To Build A Jack Sparrow Costume
You’ve finally decided to be your favorite character from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies: Captain Jack Sparrow. When I set out to build a Jack Sparrow costume for my daughter, I had no idea it would be such a challenge. From the beginning, I knew there was no way I was going to be able to make the entire costume from scratch. I decided to find as many pieces of the costume that I could buy and then build the rest with materials that would work with what I had bought.
For those who don’t know, Jack Sparrow is a character from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. He has quite a unique style and look about him. His costume consists of many different layers (not just clothing) and accessories.
In this blog post, I will describe how we made the costume which includes where we found all of our items and how we put them together.
The first thing you will need is an outfit. We ended up purchasing a shirt, vest, and pants – all black in color. The shirt is sleeveless with lace up front detail (we used white ribbon). We also added some white fabric paint around the edges of the sleeves and collar to give it more of an aged look. Both gentlemen have gone to great lengths to bring the character of Jack Sparrow to life – they really are one in the same. It is true that Johnny has as much makeup on as Keith – maybe even more! But if you’re going to dress like him, you’ll have to be prepared for the long transformation process. This is not your typical Halloween costume – this is a full blown cosplay costume that requires hours to perfect.
