Before I begin, let me just say that the costumes on Dark Angel are pretty much flawless. There is really nothing you need to do to improve them. But there are a few little things I’ve picked up over the years that might help you out if you’re trying to put together a Dark Angel costume.
First: it’s not as easy as it looks! Dark Angel’s costume is simple, but it has to be simple. Every element of our hero has to work together in order for her to move with the grace and speed that she does in battle. For example, you can’t just throw a pair of jeans and a motorcycle jacket on and go fight crime. You need a pair of jeans that are going to stretch with you, and a jacket that will stay out of your way when you’re moving fast. Also, she doesn’t wear heels or boots because she needs something comfortable that isn’t going to get caught on anything when she’s running or jumping around.

Dark Angel Costume Tip
I’m writing this because I know there are a lot of people out there who want to dress as The Dark Angel, but are having trouble finding the right clothes. This is what I did:
1) I went to the thrift store and found a very plain black cotton dress. It can be long or short sleeve, with buttons or zippers. (the one I bought was $3)
2) I then cut the sleeves off, leaving them frayed at the edges. (if you want, you can sew some lace around where you cut it, right under your arm.)
3) Next, with a pair of scissors, i cut the bottom of the dress in a jagged pattern that went all the way around it. (make sure you don’t cut it too short!)
4) Finally, I took some cheap iron-on letters and spelled out “Dark Angel” on each side of the front of my dress. When you put it on and look in the mirror, from behind it will say “Dark Angel”, but from infront it will say “Angel Dark”. This is important! You could also write something like “666” on both sides if you want!**

I love the costume for this Angel. I used a short black dress, with a long sleeve white shirt over it, and then added black wings to the back. I had some red fabric that I cut into strips and tied around my waist. You could also use red ribbon.
I did have several people ask me if I was a “dark angel” or an “evil angel.” The answer is no. It’s just that the wings are black, not white.
All you need for this Angel costume is:
Black dress, preferably one that is fitted at the top and then flares out at the bottom.
White long-sleeve shirt to go over the dress
Black feather wings (you can get these online at amazon)

The Dark Angels, with their dark wings, are not easy to portray. Here are some tips to help you look like you belong in the heavens and not the local Halloween store.
The Wings
The wings of a Dark Angel costume can make or break the whole look. You want them to look realistic yet be able to dance in and out of tight spaces. The best way to achieve this is to use light weight materials.
Don’t try to make your own wings unless you are very crafty and have access to all the materials needed for crafting these wings. You will need wire and a light weight material such as cheesecloth (to be painted black), black tulle, or black chiffon. The feathers must be individually glued on which makes this an extremely time consuming project, not to mention the cost of all the supplies needed.
If you have the time and money, then go ahead and make your own wings, but if you are a last minute shopper like me, try one of these alternatives:
