Poison Ivy is one of the most recognizable villains of DC comics, yet has never been given the proper amount of screen time. Batman and Robin gave us a campy, over-the-top performance by Uma Thurman, while The Animated Series had an amazing character arc that was slightly undermined when they threw her into the Justice League. But Suicide Squad looks like it will finally give us a Poison Ivy who will be true to the comics and not just a throw away villain.

So here is my DIY Poison Ivy costume!

Despite what you may have seen on Pinterest, Poison Ivy does not wear green. Her outfit is more stylized after a seductive, exotic dancer with a lot of jewelry and some very low cut necklines. Her skin is also very pale so if you don’t have the palest skin in the world, you might want to pick up some white face paint from your local Halloween store and mix it with your foundation to create an even lighter shade.

So, I know that Suicide Squad was a total flop, but I’m still in love with Harley Quinn. In the movie, her character doesn’t have much to do except be a damsel in distress and an object for the male gaze; but she still has cool fights and an even cooler costume!

I’ve always been in love with the character of Poison Ivy, so when I saw that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn had a Poison Ivy-inspired look, I knew it was time to make my own version of the costume.

I made this Poison Ivy costume using some hot glue and things that were laying around my house. It took me a couple of hours, and here’s how you can make one too!

Supplies:

Green long-sleeved shirt

Black leggings

Gold glitter fabric paint (a little goes a long way!)

Hot glue gun

Red marker or red fabric paint (optional)

I made my Poison Ivy costume for Halloween last year. I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback on it, so I figured I’d share how I did it. **

I started by ordering the dress off Amazon. You can find the one that I bought here. It’s very comfortable and well-made. Just look at all the reviews!

Next, I ordered some flowers online from a website called Consumer Crafts. They have a whole section just for fake flowers! Then, I hot glued them onto the dress. You can see the flowers that I bought here and here. Be warned: this step is very time consuming!

I already had some green boots from a previous Halloween costume, but you can easily find some at any costume store or online shop like Yandy.com or Walmart.com. Walmart even has some knee high boots!

The wig was also purchased from Amazon (you can find it here). It doesn’t come in green, but that’s easy to fix with a little bit of hair dye (I used Manic Panic in Electric Lizard). The wig has two small combs on each side which really help to keep it on your head securely throughout the night (or day) of partying.

Just add some green face paint

In honor of DC Comic’s Suicide Squad, it’s time to think about dressing up as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel for Halloween. This Suicide Squad Harley Quinn costume will be fun and easy to create. Read on for instructions!

The new Suicide Squad Harley Quinn costume is a little different from the classic costume. The colors are reversed, while keeping the same design elements. The most important part of this outfit is her red and blue hair. If you have blonde hair, you can easily create streaks of the right colors with temporary hair color spray or washable chalk paint. If you have darker hair, a wig can be used instead. There are many different types of wigs available to choose from at your local party supply store or online.

Use face paint or makeup to create a white base and use eyeliner to draw on details like the black diamonds around your eyes, as well as lines on your forehead and cheeks to mimic tattoos. You can also use face paint to add red lips and blue eye shadow. There are many tutorials on YouTube that can help you achieve this look if you’re not very experienced with makeup.

Harley’s clothing is simple but distinctive. She wears a t-shirt with a jester collar, which is available for purchase online or

I had such a blast making the Harley Quinn costume for my friends wedding, I wanted to make another costume for Halloween. This time around I challenged myself to make a full body suit of ivy leaves. To make the leaves, I used a foam floor mat that you can find at home depot. You cut the edges off to get one large sheet and then cut it into strips. You then paint the strips green and then add veins with brown acrylic paint. Once those are dry you can cut ivy leaf shapes out of them with an exacto knife. After cutting out all the leaves, you can glue bias tape or ribbon to the edges to give it strength and cover up any sharp edges. For adhesive, I used hot glue because its really strong and fast drying but if you’re more patient than me you could also use fabric glue or even sew on the bias tape by hand.

First, I measured the length of my face and how high on my head I wanted the top petals to sit. Then I took two pieces of paper and cut them into a petal shape. After that, I used my paper as a stencil for the rest of the petals.

I found it easier to cut out three or four at a time. Once you have your petals, trace them onto your red foam sheet. You can use a marker, but I found it easier to use a small knife and carve out the outline before cutting.

Then cut all them out. Once you have all of your petals cut out, take your scissors and give them wavy edges to make them look more like leaves. You will end up with about 25-30 large petals (depending on how many layers you want).
