Famous Shoots at the Gardens
There were two famous shoots at the Gardens. The first was of Captain Marvel, who flew off to rescue Stewardess Delilah and her little dog, when the private plane of billionaire Van der Bilt crashed on a deserted Pacific Island.
The second was of Flash Gordon and his beautiful paramour Dale Arden, who had to make an emergency landing in their rocket ship near the Gardens. They were met by a horde of ferocious green reptilian creatures who were plotting to take over the Earth. A desperate battle ensued in which many of the monsters fell under Flash’s ray gun.
But just as it looked like all hope was lost, a squad of knights appeared on horseback. They drove away the remaining monsters and helped Flash and Dale escape back to their rocket ship.
As soon as they had blasted off into space, the knights revealed themselves to be the Green Knights from Planet X.
The garden is home to a number of famous shoots, including the original I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here tree and the one which inspired the creation of The Gruffalo.
It also features the world’s biggest yew hedge maze, at 1.5 miles long.
The gardens were created by Henry Wise in 1702 and have been passed through generations of his family ever since.
“We are delighted to welcome Captain Marvel to Thorpe Perrow,” said Mr Wise, who still lives in the house built by his ancestor. “We’re hoping to inspire people to come and visit us.”
