For a fun and easy costume, try Belle from Beauty and the Beast! We think this look is a little more chic than the original, with a few less froufrou details. But it’s still classic, cute, and perfect for any princess who likes to read.

Step 1: Dress

The dress is the main piece here, so you’ll want to find one that looks just right. Our recommendation is this simply beautiful yellow satin dress by Elope ($47.99). It’s got all the details of Belle’s iconic dress (puffy sleeves, raised waistline, etc), but it’s not over-the-top in any way. It looks like something you could wear to a formal dance or party. And it would be great for dressing up on ordinary days too!

Step 2: Accessories

It wouldn’t be Belle without her signature hairdo. You can create her braided bun with a faux hair piece ($10). Then add a gold rose pendant ($2.99) and some delicate gloves ($7.95) to

So, you have your heart set on a Belle costume but aren’t sure where to start. Good news: We’ve got you covered with step-by-step instructions for the perfect “Beauty and the Beast” look.

First, the hair:

Tease it at the crown of your head to give it some volume; then smooth out the top layer with a brush.

Next, grab sections of hair from both sides of your head and twist them together toward the back of your head. Secure with bobby pins.

Spritz with hair spray to keep it in place.

Now for the makeup:

Apply foundation all over your face; then use concealer under your eyes, on any blemishes and down your nose. Set with powder.

Use a fluffy brush to apply bronzer all over your face, including on your neck and ears — don’t forget to blend!

Swipe on a peach or coral blush just below your cheekbones and blend upward along the cheekbones using a fluffy brush.

Fill in brows with an angled eyebrow brush using brown powder or gel (whichever is easier for you).

Line eyelids with black pencil liner and smudge slightly using a cotton swab or sponge tip applicator. Follow

Belle has always been one of my favorite characters. I mean, she’s smart, pretty and loves to read! In my book, that makes her the total package. Truth be told, Belle is a very simple costume to put together. All you need is a yellow dress, some accessories and two bobby pins to create the perfect Belle look. Take a peek at the photo below for step-by-step directions on how to create this look.

The lovely Belle costume is one of the most popular Disney princess costumes for Halloween. This easy and beautiful costume can be put together with a few items from your closet and the local thrift store.

I follow the same formula for just about every costume I make. First, pick out a very basic version of what you want to make and then embellish it. It’s amazing how much you can do with some tulle, trim and lace!

For this costume, I used a very basic pattern (Simplicity

The Disney Princesses are the most recognizable female characters in the world. They inspire costumes for girls of all ages.

Belle is the “beauty” of Beauty and the Beast, a fairy tale about a girl who falls in love with a cursed prince (a beast) and eventually breaks the curse with her love.

Belle’s costume is easy to make from pieces you may have hanging in your closet. And it is easy to accessorize her costume with household items.

Dress:

This dress is made of two pieces: a long-sleeved shirt with a peasant top over it. You will need:

* Yellow long-sleeved shirt, available at thrift stores or your local Target or Walmart (or you could use an old yellow t-shirt).

* White cotton peasant top, cut off at midriff (or cut off an adult medium white t-shirt).

* Gold ribbon, enough to tie around your waist twice plus tie into a bow (about 4 yards). If you don’t have gold ribbon at home, you can get some at any craft store like Michaels or Joann’s Fabrics and Crafts (they usually cost about $1/yard). You can also substitute any thin gold chain

It’s time to start thinking about Halloween costumes! Every year in October, I post a few ideas for homemade costumes. This is my seventh year, and I love getting the chance to share some of my family’s favorite things with you.

I’ve been sewing Belle’s costume all week, and it’s one of my favorites. The dress is made from a satin and velveteen combination, with a full tulle skirt underneath. The cape is a fun addition that can be worn as part of the costume or separately, depending on how your little one is feeling. But my favorite part is the gown overlay. It’s so regal and beautiful, perfect for letting her imagine she’s a princess for the night.

The pattern is Simplicity 2552 and was easy to sew up (though there are lots of pieces). It also comes with an option for Aurora’s gown, if you prefer Sleeping Beauty.

Here are some tips I learned while sewing this up:
