In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Hermione Granger is introduced as a bossy know-it-all who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She knows she’s smart and isn’t shy about showing it. She is the perfect role model for any young witch or wizard.

Young witches can dress in a Hermione Granger costume for Halloween or for a costume party. A Hermione costume is easy to make. The most important item of clothing is the robe. You can find robes at Halloween stores, but you may also want to check out thrift shops, too.

For the next part of your costume, you’ll need to do some shopping – or raiding through your long-lost dresser drawers. Your look will be complete with a white blouse and knee-high socks that are black, brown or gray.

You can add one more item to your ensemble: A wand! You’ll find wands in almost any store that sells party goods and decorations. You can also buy one online at sites like Amazon.com. Or you can try making your own DIY Harry Potter Wand!

I know this is a blog about Halloween costumes, but I am going to take a moment to talk about the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I have only read the first few Harry Potter books, but I have seen all of the movies. It’s been a long time since I’ve read any of the books or seen any of the earlier movies, so I went into this latest one with no expectations.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There are plenty of things about it that make no sense, but for some reason none of them bothered me in this movie like they bothered me in some of the earlier ones. Maybe it’s because my expectations were low from having not seen any of the earlier movies in so long, or maybe it’s because this one seemed to be less about magic and more about war.

But enough about that. Let’s get back to costumes! If you’re looking for a Hermione Granger costume, then you’ve come to the right place. To be honest, there aren’t very many options if you want an officially licensed costume, but you do have a couple options:

Not only will your kids love them, but you’ll love the fact that there is absolutely no sewing involved in making these costumes. They each take about 5 minutes to make!

I’m going to show you how I made Hermione’s robes, but the same idea can be used to make robes for any other house as well. (I did a bit of research on colors and symbols and came up with this info: Gryffindor=Lion, red and gold; Slytherin=Snake, green and silver; Ravenclaw=Eagle, blue and bronze; Hufflepuff=Badger, yellow and black).

What you need:

A sheet in the appropriate colors (I used a queen sized flat sheet from Walmart in burgundy-ish)
