Cruella de Vil Costume

Cruella de Vil is a fictional villain who first appeared in Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians, Disney’s 1961 animated adaptation, and Disney’s live-action adaptation 101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians. She was created by Marc Davis and was animated by Milt Kahl.

Davis claimed that Cruella is the meanest villain he ever created, and that she was inspired by Tallulah Bankhead and Bette Davis. However, it is believed that she was based on Baroness Marguerite de Courcel (1903-1989), whose nickname was “Cruella”. She also bears a resemblance to fashion icon Elsa Schiaparelli.

Black and White Wig

To create Cruella de Vil’s costume you need to have a long black dress. This can be any length so if you have an old black dress around that you don’t mind altering and adding accessories to then this is perfect.

You will also need a long black fur coat, or a short one and the fake fur of your choice. You can find these both in thrift stores, but if you are willing to spend more money they can be found new as well.

Once you have the dress and coat together you will need to add some accessories such as jewelry and other items. Cruella de Vil has tons of jewelry on her, mostly bracelets and necklaces. A lot of her jewelry looks like it was made from bones, so if you want to get creative try making some earrings or bracelets out of bone-shaped beads.

Next, you’ll want to add her iconic Dalmatian print scarf. This can be easily found at your local craft store if you do not already own one, or if you feel like getting creative make one yourself by sewing a piece of fabric in the classic black and white pattern together with a piece of white silk chiffon fabric for the texture that we all know from the movie!

The black and white Cruella de Vil costume is a classic Halloween costume and we love it. However, we want to show you how to make your costume even better. Here are some improvements you can do on your Cruella de Vil Costume

The wig: The wig is the most important part of this costume. We will show you how to create your own. You need a black wig and a white wig. Cut the hair off of each one so that the length is identical. Take both wigs and put them together with the inside of the wigs facing out and sew them together at the top. When you flip it right side out, you will have one wig with white and black hair!

The Dress: If you want to go all out, look for a cocktail dress in black with white polka dots or stripes. Otherwise, just buy some felt (red, white, black) and cut out polka dots to glue onto your dress! Also make sure to add some red ribbon or piping around the neckline for a pop of color!

There is nothing more glamorous than being Cruella de Vil, the most fabulous villain of all time. It is a classic costume that never goes out of style, and is easily recognizable by so many people.

And the best part about this costume is that it is so easy to make! In this tutorial I will show you how to create your very own Cruella de Vil costume for Halloween or any occasion.

Start off with a black mini-dress (preferably with a high collar). If you can find a dress with a white neckline and/or cuffs, even better!

You can also use a long sleeved black dress and then add white fabric on the neckline and cuffs. Use some adhesive (I like fabric glue) to stick the fabric in place.

Next, choose two pieces of faux fur fabric for the skirt of your dress. One piece should be about twice as long as the other (I used 1/2 yard for one piece and 1 yard for the other).

Lay the two pieces of fabric on top of each other and cut them into identical shapes (you can use your mini-dress as a template). Make sure they are both facing “right side up,” meaning that if you’re using different colored
