To begin, first you will need to purchase the following items:
• White fur fabric (1.5m)
• Pink fur fabric (0.5m)
• Polyester stuffing (300g)
• Needle and thread/sewing machine
The next step is to create your bunny ears. You will need two pieces of white fabric measuring 20cm x 15cm and one piece of pink fabric measuring 9cm x 10cm for each ear. Sew along the edges of the white fabric pieces leaving a gap of about 2cm at the bottom of each piece. Turn them inside out and fill with polyester stuffing until they are firm but still bendy. First off, let’s talk about the most important part of any Easter Bunny costume – the head. Most hands-on costumes require vision and so you’ll need to have some sort of opening in front of your eyes. You can do this simply by using a cheap pair of sunglasses or by cutting out some polystyrene or cardboard into a mask shape and gluing it to a pair of sunglasses.
Next up is the ears. You don’t want bunny ears that droop down like those floppy ones you might have in mind when you think of rabbits – those are for rabbits not bunnies! You want upright ears like those of a hare. If you’re handy with a sewing needle, you can make yourself some long cloth ears that stand up straight, but if not you could use cardboard or polystyrene again and paint them white or pink .

If you think of yourself as a human in a rabbit costume, your behavior will be wrong and you’ll end up looking like an idiot. Instead imagine you are a real rabbit who has suddenly grown to human size. That may seem silly, but it’s the right way to behave. It is also helpful to watch how actual rabbits behave, especially when they encounter humans. And if possible spend some time with live rabbits, so you can observe their movements and habits more closely.
Easter bunnies are not supposed to speak or interact with children directly. In fact, that’s why we wear the head: it lets us maintain our dignity while still providing the children with an authentic experience. So just stand there and look cute. Don’t wave or dance or make faces (even if your assistant does).
