To become Shrek for Halloween, you need to follow a few easy steps. All the items needed are readily available at a thrift store or local costume shop.
Step 1:
Gather the supplies. You will need a green shirt, green pants, green shoes, a purple vest, black gloves, and a green hat/wig.
Step 2:
Put on the clothing. Put on the shirt and pants first, then the vest, then the shoes. The shoes should be slip-on so they can easily go over your own shoes.
Step 3:
Apply makeup to your face. You can purchase green face paint at any costume shop; however, if you don’t want to spend money on professional paint and brushes, you can use green lipstick or even just smear green eyeshadow all over your face! Once you have applied the makeup all over your face, wipe it into your hairline so it looks like you’re wearing a mask of green flesh rather than just having painted cheeks and forehead. If your wig does not cover your eyebrows entirely (and most do not) add some more makeup above your eyebrows or else color them in with an eyebrow pencil or eyeliner.

1. Buy a large green shirt. The bigger, the better. The shirt should also have long sleeves.
2. Get a pair of brown tights or leggings to go over the shirt for extra coverage.
3. Go to a costume store or shop at home for a pair of large ogre ears and an ogre nose and chin-set to complete the look. You can also wear a mask if you do not want to wear the latex pieces directly on your face.
4. Paint your face green with theatrical make-up or grease paint from a local party store or beauty supply store. This can be done by applying it with your fingertips or using a sponge pad to blend it in evenly on your skin and neck area, if visible under the shirt collar area.*

I’ve always had a passion for Halloween and making my own costumes; I made my first costume when I was 7 years old and have been making them ever since. When I decided to go as Shrek for Halloween last year, I knew it would be a challenge. Here is what I learned from the process.
This article will give you an inside look at how to make a costume of one of the most popular movie characters ever created. The materials needed are fairly inexpensive and can be found at local craft stores, costume stores or even Wal-Mart.
Supplies:
Let’s face it, everyone loves Shrek! He is one of the greatest movie characters ever made.
Sadly, most Shrek costumes look cheap and nasty because the manufacturers cut corners to save money. They use cheap materials and bad patterns. I really wanted a high quality costume that would last. So, I decided to make my own Shrek outfit by hand.
I created a home studio with a large mirror so I could be both designer and model as I worked on the costume. I kept notes in a notebook so I would remember what I did if I had to make more than one costume.
Now you can create your own awesome Shrek costume and become the star of Halloween!
