Oogie Boogie Costume Ideas
Dressing up as Oogie Boogie can be great fun! This page is full of ideas and tips on how to put together a costume that everyone will recognize.
The Basics
The most important part of an Oogie Boogie costume is the face. The face is the part of the character that everyone recognizes, so you really want to get this right.
The face should be covered in sack cloth with stitching all over it. The eyes and mouth should be visible through holes in the cloth. There are many ways to do this:
Sew a mask out of burlap rope that you can tie on your head, then cut eye-holes and a mouth-hole out of it. This is probably the best option for a true Oogie Boogie face, but it may take some skill with a needle and thread; at minimum, it requires sewing a rope loop onto the top of the mask so you can tie it onto your head. If you don’t have those skills yourself, find someone who does!
Make a paper-mache mold of your own face, let dry thoroughly, then paint

First off, let’s take a look at some historical photos of the real Boogie in order to get a better understanding of how he used to dress.
If you are looking to dress up as Oogie Boogie this Halloween, then you’ve come to the right place.
The creation of Oogie Boogie has been detailed on the Disney Wiki page, but in short, he is a monster that lives under the floorboards of the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World.
The movie is rated G and the character is supposed to be scary, so it’s not a costume that would appeal to everyone. But for those who do want to dress up as him, it’s a pretty easy costume to put together.
Oogie Boogie Costume Tips:
* To make an Oogie Boogie costume, all you need is green face paint and a brown burlap sack or jumpsuit (you can even cut holes for your arms and legs). Then just simply draw his face on with brown eye liner or face paint.
* If you don’t have time or don’t feel like making your own costume, there are plenty of places online to purchase one. I’ll list some options below.
If you’re not familiar with “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, the Oogie Boogie character is a burlap sack full of bugs. He has a mouth and hands, but that’s it.
When I started thinking about how to dress up as this character, I knew I wanted to have a big head that looked like a burlap sack. I found a hooded sweatshirt with a long zipper down the front. I pulled the hood over my head, and then unzipped it down to my waist. Then I stuffed it full of white plastic bags, and zipped it back up again. The result looked exactly like the picture in the movie – just what I wanted!
I had some black gloves to put on my hands, but I thought they made them look too flat. So I stitched some pipe cleaners together so they would stick out from my hands and look more bug-like.
Next was figuring out how to make the face look right. My original idea was to use paper mache over a balloon for the eye sockets and nose area, but then I couldn’t figure out how to make it fit over my face without being real hard to see out of. So instead, I used an old pair of safety goggles for the eyes (which
The Oogie Boogie Costume is a popular costume. You can make these out of regular clothing and some basic make-up.
You will need:
– Black shirt
– Black pants
– A pair of arm warmers (can be black)
– Green make up for your face and hands
– Some blinking lights (optional)
Putting it all together:
1. Put on the black shirt, pants, and arm warmers.
2. Put on the green make-up (the more the better).
3. If you want to get really into it, you can sew blinking lights onto your shirt!
For the one-eyed Oogie Boogie costume, you’ll want to start with a green sweatsuit (with hood) and then add the details.
For starters, you’ll want to take a sharpie or fabric paint and draw stitches across the front of the suit and on the hood. Then glue on some black buttons for eyes. For this step I recommend using E6000 glue. It’s a bit stinky, so make sure to do this project in a well-ventilated area.
Next, use yellow felt or fleece to make dice for Oogie’s body. You’ll need three yellow sixes and one yellow one to get Oogie’s total (for those keeping track at home). Glue these onto your sweatshirt; again I recommend using E6000 glue.
For the finishing touches, grab a pair of white gloves and use a black marker to draw stitches where your fingers go on each glove. Then glue some more dice onto each glove (you’ll be making two fives).
Finally, cut out strings from some black felt and glue them all around the suit. These are just for show; they don’t actually have any purpose!
Oogie Boogie is the main antagonist of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. He is a large spider-like creature and the mastermind behind Lock, Shock, and Barrel’s mischief in Halloween Town. He is voiced by Ken Page.
