You can buy a variety of different costumes online and at your local party store, but it is easy to put together a homemade version of this classic character’s outfit. The clothes that Mary Poppins wears are very simple to find, are relatively inexpensive, and can be used for other costumes as well.

The key elements of a mary poppins costume are:

An umbrella: This is the key element to any Mary Poppins outfit. You can usually find umbrellas very easily at thrift stores or consignment shops. You want to get a black umbrella with a wooden handle. If you can’t find an umbrella like this, you could always paint an umbrella you already have or purchase one new from an online retailer.

A white blouse: Any white blouse will do, but if you have trouble finding one at your local thrift stores, try your local department stores on their clearance

Mary Poppins Costume:

As you probably already know, Mary Poppins is known for her black boots with heels, her white gloves, her hat with the giant red feather, and of course her blue dress.

The first item of clothing we will look into is the dress; a good place to start when making your costume.

Mary Poppins is a fictional character from the children’s book series of the same name by P. L. Travers, and the 1964 film adaptation starring Julie Andrews. She is a magical English nanny who blows in on the east wind and arrives at the Banks’ house at 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London, one afternoon at tea time. Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way: she is kind but stern, vain but self-denying, childish but responsible and old-fashioned but innovative.

A Mary Poppins costume makes a great option for anyone looking to dress up as an iconic character this Halloween. If you are planning on making your own Mary Poppins costume, here are some tips that will help you along the way.

If you love Mary Poppins and are looking to dress up as her for a party, convention, or play, you’ll need to put together the right costume. Luckily, it is not hard at all. The great thing about this costume is that it’s pretty much a normal outfit.

First you will need to find a hat. The type of hat that Mary Poppins wears is called a cloche hat. You can wear any black hat as long as it has a brim in the front of it.

Next, you’ll need to get yourself a black coat. This can be any type of coat as long as it’s black.

You’ll also need white gloves and a white bag for your umbrella and carpet bag.

Finally, you can use some face paint to give yourself rosy cheeks and freckles!

I have loved Mary Poppins since I was a little girl. I have always been drawn to the timelessness of the story and the magical elements. One of my favorite parts is when Bert whistles for the wind to come and when they dance with the chimney sweeps on the roof.

I grew up performing in musicals and this past year I got the chance to play Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins at our local community theatre. It was such an amazing experience and one I will never forget. One of the most rewarding parts was seeing how excited children were when they saw me as Mary Poppins. They smiled and waved and shouted out “Mary Poppins” as they got their picture taken with me after each show.

I could not have played Mary Poppins without the help from a costume designer from my local community theatre who helped me make my outfit. We started with a pattern for a 1940s style dress that had the look we wanted for Mary Poppins’ dress, but there were some modifications that needed to be made so it looked more like her dress from the movie.

The base of my dress was white taffeta, but you could use cotton if you wanted something more breathable for warmer
