Are you looking to create the perfect costume for Dia de los Muertos, but don’t know where to start? You’ve come to the right place! We’ll walk you through all the necessary steps.
Step 1: Choose a costume
The first step is to choose a costume. Should this be something from a movie? A historical figure? Something from your own imagination? The sky’s the limit!
Step 2: Create a sketch
It can be helpful to draw out exactly what you want on paper beforehand. This will give you a rough idea of what materials you’ll need, and if there are any parts that will be especially tricky. It can also help to have a reference picture of your chosen character when beginning your sketch. We recommend going with pencil at first so that you can easily make changes as needed.

For this Day of the Dead look you will need a long sleeve black shirt and black leggings. With just 1 yard of white fabric and an elastic headband you can create this colorful flower crown for your skull look. Top it off with some white or black face paint or foundation, and then use eyeliner or face paint to create the sugar skull design around your eyes. To finish off your Day of the Dead look, don’t forget to wear bright colors!
You can make a costume that is fun and authentic, or you can make one that is just flat-out awesome. We’ll help you do both.
The most important thing to remember when making a Day of the Dead costume is that the holiday itself is not about death and terror like Halloween. It’s a time to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed on.
That means your costume should reflect joy, not fear. To help get you started, we’ve divided the process up into three steps:
Find an inspiration for your costume.
Look online for inspiration and ideas. You can see some examples at our Pinterest page.
Get the right supplies from a good store.

This is a tutorial on how to make a Day of the Dead costume.
At this time of year, many people like to celebrate this holiday with costumes.
This requires some basic sewing skills, but for the most part it is very quick and easy!
You will need: black boots, white tights or leggings, black skirt or dress (optional), long sleeved top in any color except red – try using an old blouse or shirt that’s been sitting around your closet forever! You can also wear a plain white T-shirt underneath if you want to add some flair with accessories like jewelry etc. You’ll also need some fabric glue which can be purchased at any craft store (I used Elmer’s Glue All) and scissors (I used Fiskars scissors). If you’re making your own outfit then don’t forget about the other things like makeup!
The Day of the Dead is a day to celebrate the lives of those who have passed and remember them in our hearts. If you want to take part, you may need to dress like them! Here are some ideas:
– Use makeup to look more creepy or scary and wear dark colors.
– Create a paper mache mask and use it as an accessory for your costume.
– Wear colorful clothing that represents different aspects of death such as skulls, bones, coffins etc., and make sure these items are bright enough so they stand out against your skin tone!
You can also choose any other Halloween costume that suits you best like zombies!
If you’re anything like me, then you probably like to procrastinate. I mean what else is the internet for? You want to make sure that you can get it done with enough time to spare so you don’t have to worry about it anymore and can go back to stalking your ex’s new girlfriend or watching cute cat videos on Facebook.
The first step is deciding what kind of costume you want. You could make a traditional dress, or something more modern. Either way there are a few things that need to be taken into account when choosing your fabric: how much will it cost? Are there any restrictions in terms of size or color? Do you have enough time for sewing (if necessary)? If not then perhaps consider buying ready-made clothing items instead!
You should also think about other accessories such as jewelry and makeup since these will help complete the look. It really depends on what kind of person you are – if you’re a girl who likes dressing up then go all out! If not then just keep things simple and stick with some basic face paint or even just plain black eyeliner for eyeshadow; remember though that whatever decision makes sense for YOU should prevail here at all times because this is ultimately your decision alone 🙂
