Obviously, you want to keep your beard and wig in good shape. This means not putting them on with adhesive – that’s just going to ruin them. Instead, use safety pins or bobby pins.

Even if your beard and wig are in perfect condition, they won’t look good when they’re not on your face properly. You might be tempted to just put them on as quickly as possible right before leaving the house, but this will end up making you look silly. As a professional Santa Claus, I have worn many suits over the years. One thing I’ve learned is that you get what you pay for! A quality suit will last for years and look fabulous at parties, parades and on visits to children. It’s worth it to buy a good one.

Costume stores often sell “Santa Suits” for about $40. These are made out of cheap, thin polyester and are not lined or padded. You may be able to get away with wearing this suit once or twice, but after that it will look shabby and tired.

If you want to wear your costume more than a couple of times, invest in a good one. Professional suits are made of thick wool and are fully lined. They have real fur trim (or faux fur) and padded bellies. The pants have elastic in the cuffs so that they can fit over your boots.
