Is It Time To Toss Out Those Old Costumes?

Halloween is just around the corner and it’s time to get your Halloween costumes ready! But what do you do with your costumes after Halloween? Do you keep them in storage for next year?

If you have children, I’m sure you know that they’ll probably want a different costume next year. However, maybe you’re willing to spend some extra money to buy a new costume every year. I don’t blame you if you are since it’s one of the best holidays of the year. It can be a lot of fun buying new costumes every year with all of your friends and family. My family loves this holiday and we always go out to buy new costumes.

However, there is no reason why you should throw away your old costumes every year. You can save them for years to come with proper storage and handling! So here are some tips on how to store your costumes:

Halloween is still a few weeks away, but you may want to get started on your costume now. If you’re like many people, you may have a box in the basement or closet that contains old Halloween costumes. The problem with this is that the older the costume gets, the more vulnerable it becomes to damage. Mold, mildew and insects are just a few things that can ruin your hard-earned costume.

So what should you do? You could buy a new costume every year and then toss it out when Halloween is over. But wouldn’t it be better if we could reduce waste by using our costumes year after year? Here are some tips for storing and handling your costume so it will last longer.

Halloween is just around the corner which means it’s time to bust out those old costumes in your closet! But wait… is that really what you want to wear? There are so many styles and trends from year to year, and you probably have a few you don’t even remember buying. So how do you know when it’s time to toss those old costumes?

There are many ways to find out if a costume is too “outdated” for this year’s Halloween party. First, look at the color. If the costume has a bright red, pink, or blue color that was super popular 15 years ago, then you may want to think twice before wearing it. Another way to tell if your costume is too old is by the material. Is it made of weird textures like vinyl or fake fur? Or maybe it’s made of something more modern like latex or glow-in-the-dark material.

If your costume seems outdated, you may need to update it with some accessories or makeup. Try adding some glittery eyeliner, a pair of fancy earrings, or a colorful wig. These things can make any costume look new again! You could also add some dark lipstick and eyeshadow for an edgier look.

If all else

It is that time of year again. The neighborhood kids have had their fun, and now you are left with a pile of costumes that are stained, torn and just plain worn out. Do you toss them in the trash or do you keep them for next year?

If you are like me, I always tend to keep my old Halloween costumes. They may be a bit worn out, but they can be reused if handled properly. I also have some costumes that have been in my family for decades and every Halloween they seem to come back from the grave.

There are a few things you should know before you start tossing your old costume in the closet until next year. Here are some tips on how to store those costumes so that they will look fresh when next October rolls around.

First of all, try to wash the costume right away so any stains or spills do not set in the fabric. Most costumes can be hand washed and hung up to dry. If you feel the costume may shrink in the dryer, wash it by hand or take it to a dry cleaner to get it cleaned professionally.

Do not wait too long to clean your costume either. Any stains could set in and become difficult to remove if left for more than a couple of days.

Halloween is a good excuse to get together with friends and family, eat candy, and dress up in costume. It’s also a great time to purge all of your old costumes you’ve been collecting over the years. Remember that bright yellow tutu you wore last year? Or how about that creepy clown costume that made you look like Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT ? If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll probably realize it’s time to toss your old costumes out and start fresh.

According to our research, many people keep their Halloween costumes for years before purging them, while others throw them out immediately after Halloween night. It’s really up to the individual and what feels right for them. Some people even keep their costumes for decades! We think this is a bit excessive, but hey, whatever floats your boat!

We suggest collecting all of your old costumes and trying them on at least once before you decide which ones to toss out. This way you can see if they still fit (who are we kidding, they never did fit in the first place), or if they even look good anymore (you know they don’t). Then simply donate those old costumes that no longer serve you or toss them into the trash. Giveaway bags are perfect for this!

If you’re like me, you have a bunch of costumes that are pillaged from the years past. They are either sitting in my closet or in the basement. Some of them haven’t been worn for over 10 years, and yet I’m still hanging on to them. Well, be it the sentimental value or just not wanting to waste the money that was spent on them, I’m not sure why I’m still holding onto them!

This year is the year where I am going to purge my costume collection. It’s time to let go and make room for some new ones. Here are a few pointers on how to get rid of your old costumes and what to do with them if you just can’t bear to say goodbye.

If you haven’t worn your costume in three years or more, it’s time to let it go. It’s either out of style, it doesn’t fit, or it’s lost its novelty for you. There is no point in keeping something around that doesn’t serve a purpose anymore. We’ve all got space issues when it comes to our closets and drawers and there is no need to keep something that you don’t wear anymore taking up space.

Halloween is a time to have fun and be creative. It’s also a time when you can pretend to be someone you’re not and get away with it. But once Halloween has passed, it’s time to store those costumes and look forward to next year.

Here are some tips on how to properly store your Halloween costume so that you can use them again:

1) After the last wear, wash your costume by hand or on gentle cycle in cold water, no bleach. Turn inside out if possible. If there are elements that should not get wet, spot clean them instead.

2) Line dry your costume if possible. Never place in the dryer; it may shrink or melt the costume fabric. If it’s a wig, make sure it’s dry before storing it.

3) Once your costume is dry, fold them carefully and place them in an airtight container or plastic bag. Store the container/bag in a cool and dry place – preferably away from sunlight and heat.*
