Disney’s masterpieces are full of interesting costumes, and with the help of the internet we can find a lot of pictures of these costumes. Here I will try to give a little extra information about each costume, and make some pictures myself with my own sewing.
This blog is a part of my own education in how to create costumes, and I hope this knowledge will be useful in my future career as a costume designer.
I hope you’ll have fun seeing my posts!
These are the costumes of Disney’s masterpieces! We all have our favourite movie, but do you know which costume was the most difficult to design? Which one took the longest time to stitch together? And which one is a fan-favourite?
Let me introduce you to some of the most iconic Disney characters and their costumes.
Snow White is a princess from a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. She has a pure heart and an innocent nature. She has faith that if she keeps a pure heart, happiness will come to her. Her kind and gentle nature also makes her beautiful on the inside as well as outside.
The Snow White costume is inspired by the original story. We’ve designed it with embroidered details: her red apple, poison apple and the word ‘poison’ in Latin. The skirt part of this costume is made from layers of organza, satin and tulle. Each layer has been stitched separately by hand! And to make it even more realistic we’ve added glitter. The top part is made from stretchy cotton so that it will fit you perfectly!
Disney Costumes are the art and the magic that breathes life into our favorite characters. So much care, attention, and detail goes into each character’s costume. With thousands of costumes being made each year for the guests, it is wonderful to see some of our most beloved characters kept classic for us.
Here at Disney Parks Blog, we are celebrating some of our favorite classic costumes from Disney Parks around the world.
The Lion King is an animated musical film of Walt Disney Pictures and it was released in 1994. It is the 32nd film in Disney’s animated features canon. The story takes place in a kingdom of lions in Africa and was influenced by William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The main character is Simba, a lion who is to succeed his father, Mufasa, as king; however, after Simba’s uncle Scar murders Mufasa, Simba is manipulated into thinking he was responsible and flees into exile. Upon maturation living with two wastrels, Simba is given some valuable perspective from his childhood friend Nala, and his shaman Rafiki, before returning to challenge Scar to end his tyranny and take his place in the Circle of Life as the rightful King.
The costume designers for the film were Andreas Deja (adult Simba), Anthony DeRosa (young Simba), Chris Sanders (Timon), Alex Kupershmidt (Pumbaa), Ruben A. Aquino (adult Nala), Glen Keane (young Nala) and Mark Henn (Sarabi). Let’s go through all characters’ costumes !
I am not a professional seamstress, but I enjoy making costumes. I aim to make my costumes as screen accurate as possible. I study the films and reference books, and use high quality fabrics to make sure the costumes are made correctly.
This website is intended to inspire others who are interested in making their own version of these costumes with additional information, tips and tutorials.
I do not sell my costumes, but if you are interested in them for a display or a photo shoot, feel free to contact me.
