Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween is a great time to dress up as your favorite character from fantasy worlds, movies, books or television shows. If you are stuck for ideas about what to wear, here are five of the most popular fantasy characters that you can use as inspiration for this year’s Halloween costume.

Rapunzel Costume – Rapunzel is a beautiful princess from the story “Rapunzel” by the Brothers Grimm. In this story Rapunzel has long blonde hair that reaches all the way to the ground, which she uses to help her prince reach her high tower window. A Rapunzel costume would be perfect for a girl who has very long hair; otherwise you could use an adult size Rapunzel wig if your hair is shorter. You’ll need a long blonde wig with bangs and some braids at the sides; these can be made with yarn or ribbon if your hair isn’t long enough to

While some Halloween costumes require expensive purchases and hours of labor, Rapunzel is a character who can be put together with items that most families already have in their closets. For the dress, choose a long-sleeved shimmery blue dress. This can be an old prom dress, bridesmaid dress or even just a long formal gown that you already have at home. The next step is to add yellow ribbon or other trim to the bottom of the dress as well as a couple of places on the bodice. If you’re handier with a needle and thread than I am, it would look great to sew on the trim. I didn’t have time for that so I used hot glue in place of sewing and it worked well. Next, cut a section out of an old piece of lace curtain or any sheer fabric for the sleeves. Now all you need to do is make Rapunzel’s hair. For this, I went to Goodwill and purchased two long blonde wigs for $5 each. Then I took one wig and tied one end off with ribbon before stuffing it with paper towels to create the braid. Next, tie off the other end with ribbon and take another piece of ribbon to tie around your daughter’

Basic Rapunzel Costume

The basic Rapunzel costume is a very simple idea. A long, flowing blue dress with a purple sash and a tiara is all that is needed. If you are not a fan of dressing up in purple, you can change the sash to any other color. This costume can be made from any old dress that you may already have, or it can be easily found at your local thrift store. In fact, you can probably find almost everything for this costume in your local thrift store!

Rapunzel Costume with Lights

This idea is for all of those who love to do everything to the extreme! The basic Rapunzel costume can be altered slightly by adding strings of lights in her hair. In order to make this easy and comfortable to wear, I would suggest using battery operated lights instead of plug-in lights. Also, make sure that they are not too heavy so that they do not pull your head down!
