The Princess Leia costume is a famous outfit from the Star Wars movies. It has been worn by many famous actresses, including Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. This costume is available in several different versions, but all versions feature the same basic design elements. The most popular version is based on Carrie Fisher’s portrayal of Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi (1983). The basic elements are: a white long sleeved tunic with gold trim; a pair of black leggings; a metal belt that features three small pouches; and two small metal cylinders attached to the belt at either side of the wearer’s waistline.
That’s the thing about Princess Leia: she is a badass. Whether she’s sporting her signature cinnamon bun hairstyle, wielding a blaster or strangling Jabba the Hutt with the very chains he used to enslave her, she is one tough cookie. Princess Leia’s costume has a fascinating history.
After the death of Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives at her funeral on Naboo and presents her infant twins, Luke and Leia, to Bail Organa, the Senator of Alderaan and former leader of the Delegation of 2000. Together with his wife Breha, Bail adopts them both, raising Leia as their daughter on Alderaan. Organa hides the children from their true parentage, instead telling them that they are his own nephew and niece. He hopes that this will protect them from Palpatine and the Sith.
When Leia is six years old, Organa sends her to train with Jedi Master Kirak Infil’a on Coruscant. One day in class, she witnesses a duel between Infil’a and fellow Jedi Master Neeyutnee against a group of students led by Tera Sinube. When one student attempts to attack Sinube from behind, Leia grabs his lightsaber from him before he can strike the old Jedi down. The class later presents her with a beaded bracelet in thanks for saving Sinube’s life.
Leia’s training continues until she is thirteen years old when Palpatine dissolves the Jedi Order
