And though you can do a group costume, it’s usually better if your friends do their own thing: you don’t want to look like you’re at a group job interview.
If someone invites you to a theme party, they’re paying you a compliment: it means they trust you to come up with something good. There are two strategies for dealing with this challenge. One is to use the theme as an excuse to dress outrageously: for example, if the theme is “superheroes,” it’s your chance to get into spandex. The other is to ignore the theme altogether and come as something else. If your host doesn’t like it, at least he’ll know never to invite you again.
