The mandalorian costume is a piece of armor from the Star Wars movies made from Mandalorian iron. It’s one of the most iconic pieces of Star Wars merchandise ever made, and for good reason.
It’s made from Mandalorian iron, which is a fictional material that can be used to make things bigger and better than regular iron. However, the materials used for Mandalorian armor are not very consistent in the movies, so any attempt to recreate it would probably be wrong in some way. The closest we’ve come to making an accurate version of the suit is from Star Wars: Battlefront 2, which uses a material called “Twinstar.”
However, that doesn’t really count because it’s made by fans. If you want an accurate mandalorian costume that you can wear in public without being arrested by police authorities or exterminated by local wildlife then you’ll have to buy one online or work with someone who has one.
I’m a little more concerned with the question of what’s inside the Mandalorian armor. I’ve always thought that it would be cool if the Mandalorians had something that was half-way between a carapace and a full suit of powered armor, with some kind of electrified bracer protection for their arms.
My friend Phong (http://hoth-phong.blogspot.com/) came up with this interpretation: “The inner layer is similar to a power suit, but without any propulsion or offensive capabilities. As to why they don’t shoot everything in sight is because they don’t want to attract attention on their own turf.”
The official answer is that the armor was made from Mandalorian technology, a combination of metal and unrefined fuel. This doesn’t make sense to me, and I’m going to explain why.
A human body is mostly water; most of the stuff in your clothes is just so you don’t feel cold. It’s easy to fill up all the spaces in your clothes with water. The helmet on the mandalorian costume is stuck on by magnets, and I think they’re made out of metal plates which you can see through, but they’re not visible from the inside. Why not use water?
I think what makes the helmet magnetic is that it has a few thick wires sticking out at different angles that are hooked up to a battery pack outside the costume. The wires are all insulated. When you put on a pair of gloves, the wires touch your body and create an electric field around them. When you move, this changes the direction of that field, and it acts like a magnet pulling metal toward itself. This pulls up on the helmet, which is metal and therefore attracts metal. So when you put on a pair of gloves, it pulls up on your helmet just enough to hold it on your head instead of falling off onto your shoulders or chest.
I have been working on a Mandalorian costume for a few months now, but I am not sure if I will ever finish it. I had the idea for the costume about 18 months ago when the first trailer for The Force Awakens was released. It was surprising to see how much (or how little) of the movie had been shown. I thought it would be neat to make an armor based off the movie’s design and see how far I could take it.
I started out with a basic pattern based off an existing Mandalorian design and bought foam board to start cutting my armor out of. I spent most of my time planning out what color scheme I wanted to use and where certain pieces would go on the armor.
Whether or not you believe the Mandalorian armor is canon to Star Wars, it’s undeniable that the design is striking. Why does Darth Vader have such an unusual look?
Mandalorian’s are a species in the Star Wars universe, who are loosely based on the east asians. The armor was designed by Rick Baker, who also designed the makeup and prosthetics for Michael Jackson’s Thriller World Tour. When designing the costume, Baker chose a all-black color scheme because he felt that it would be more intimidating than a white one. He said, “black is always good for a scary costume”.
For the film’s production, Lucas hired a team of over 400 costume designers, seamstresses, and embroiderers. They spent six months cutting cloth and sewing together what they called “a bespoke wardrobe” for the actors. They made costumes for all six lead characters – including two Jedi Master outfits – as well as Mandos, soldiers, and members of the cast who would wear Mandalorian armor.
The most striking aspect of the costume is that it’s a functional piece of armor, with no superfluous elements. The helmet and chestpiece are connected by a long strip of material which wraps around the wearer’s body, and they don’t have any padding inside them. They’re actually not even full-body protectors; they only cover parts of the torso, like the front and back of the arms, the front and back of the legs, and some parts of the hips and shoulders. All that protection seems to be concentrated in a small area on top of the wearer’s head.
Given all this, it’s not surprising that most people think that an actor wore a costume instead of a set, because it looks so much more realistic. But there were two reasons why it was built like this:
1. It would be hard to make one big piece move with all its articulated joints in different directions at the same time, so it would have been impractical to do so with an integrated suit. Instead, what you see is an assortment of smaller pieces:
2. It would also be difficult for many people to put all those pieces on themselves at once, so you get people in wigs or helmets assembling their own individual pieces.
