How to make your Halloween costume work for you if you have to dress up while working that day.
When it’s Halloween and you have to work, make sure your costume is perfect for the job. Don’t wear anything too restrictive, uncomfortable, or difficult to move in.
Also try not to wear a mask that obscures your face too much, because then people won’t know who you are. Make sure your coworkers will be able to recognize you as yourself and not just some random person in a costume!
So what costumes can you wear? Here are some ideas:
Dress as a doctor or nurse if you’re working at a hospital. Wear scrubs and a stethoscope around your neck and carry a clipboard with fake medical notes on it. You could also dress up like a patient, but make sure you look healthy so nobody thinks there’s actually something wrong with you!
If you’re an accountant, try going as The Count from Sesame Street! Wear black pants and shoes with white socks pulled up over them so they stick out like fangs beneath each other; then put on a red cape or shawl over everything else (but don’t cover too much of your face). Bring along some vampire teeth for when people ask who are
Does this mean you have to choose between showing up to work in a costume, or getting fired? No! You can have it all.
If you work at an office or cubicle, or in a retail store, then dressing up in your typical witch costume is probably not the best of choices.
Instead, make sure your costume is perfect for the job: A witch that works at a bank.
A witch that works as an architect.
A witch that works as a doctor.
A witch that works as a chef in a kitchen.
A witch that works as an artist.
A witch that works at a library.
A witch that works as an electrician.
You get the idea!
If you are going to be working on Halloween, you need to make sure your costume is appropriate for the job.
Your costume should be professionally appropriate. If you work in a professional setting, we suggest a witch costume. You can get a witch costume at any party or department store and accessorize it with a black dress or suit that you already own.
Try to incorporate your costume with some of the things you already have in your closet. Not only will you have more fun wearing the pieces after Halloween, but you’ll also save yourself money on buying something new.
If it’s not possible to wear a costume at work, try dressing up with your coworkers. Everyone can coordinate their costumes around the same theme or idea and make it a fun day of celebration at the office.
Whether you love it or hate it, Halloween is right around the corner. This means that if you are a professional and have to go to work on October 31st, then you might be looking at how to incorporate your costume into your work attire.
Luckily, there are several costumes that – with a little creativity – can work perfectly in an office setting. Here are some ideas:
Witch: This one is easy – just wear all black and add a pointy hat! Then carry around a wand or broomstick to complete the look. No one will know you’re actually dressed up for Halloween!
Athlete: You could dress up as a runner, a swimmer or any other athlete. Just make sure you have athletic wear on and then bring props like an inflatable pool toy, or a running shoe keychain that you can use throughout the day.
Librarian: This is another one of those costumes that no one will even notice is a costume – unless, of course, you decide to wear cat-eye glasses and pull your hair back in a tight bun. To make this one extra fun, carry around a copy of the dictionary in your purse! If someone asks why you’re carrying around the dictionary all day, just tell them it’s
Halloween is fast approaching, and for some of us that means we’ll be spending the day at work. You may not have the luxury of wearing a costume to work, however, or you may want to change into something a little more professional after work. That’s where we come in. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite costumes that will fit right in at the office.
Witch
Just wear all black. Done and done.
Ghost
Throw on an old white sheet or grab an extra one from your linen closet and cut a couple holes out for your eyes. Add some chains if you’re feeling extra-spooky.
Vampire
This requires a little bit more effort than a ghost but not much more. Put on your best suit (or dress) then add some fake blood to the collar of your shirt and bite marks on your neck. If you want to go the extra mile, slick back your hair with gel and put in fangs for extra vampire-ness.
My costume had a lot of spandex, and I’d heard that spandex could get hot. I figured the office would be cool enough, so I wasn’t too worried. But when I got off the train at Grand Central, my costume was already making me sweat.
It was a good thing Halloween fell on a Saturday this year, because there’s no way you could wear this to work.
I realized I should have worn something over my costume on the train. The subway was air-conditioned, but it was still hot.
It was only October 27th, and it was still warm enough for the AC to be off in the office. That meant my poor armadillo costume would be uncomfortably hot for most of the day.
Hi everyone! I work in a professional office, and since Halloween is next week my boss has decided to let all the employees dress up for the day. I have a very specific costume idea that I’m trying to make work, but it’s hard to determine whether or not it will be appropriate for the office.
I want to be a witch, but I don’t want to look like I just rolled out of bed and threw on some black clothes. You know what I mean? The real challenge is finding the right balance between being fun, but still looking professional. So far this is what I have in mind as a base:
Black dress pants from Banana Republic (they’re a little bit fancy)
A long-sleeve black top with a high collar
Black flats
Tights with a pattern (maybe I’ll do stripes)
A hat with a wide brim and an interesting shape
I don’t want to wear too much makeup because it won’t look right with my glasses, so ideally most of my costume will be clothing-based. That’s where you guys come in 🙂
Do you think this will work? How can I make it better? If you have any ideas, please let me know!
