1. The first, and easiest, way to look like Coraline is to find a blue sweater and stitch some black buttons onto it. This works best if you are planning on being someone other than Coraline for the rest of the year; otherwise, you might find yourself tempted to wear this sweater all the time! If you do choose this method, though, try keeping the sweater in the back of your closet until October so that it stays clean and neat.

Coraline is about a girl who moves to a new home and finds a secret door that leads to an alternate world with an alternate family.
If you love the movie, you probably want to make or buy a Coraline costume. However, you may not want to spend too much money. You may also want your costume to be slightly different from everyone else’s costume. You may also just enjoy making costumes. Coraline Costume: The Dragonfly Brooch

The one thing that bugs me about the Coraline movie is that Coraline’s costume is so uninspiring. Isn’t it just a plain blue dress with a little yellow button and a blue raincoat? If I were going to make my own Coraline costume, I’d want to do something a little more creative.
Luckily, there are plenty of creative people out there who have shared their ideas for making your own Coraline costume. Here are four of them:
1. Coraline Costume Sewing Pattern by Simplicity
I really like this pattern because it looks easy to use, and because it includes patterns for both the blue raincoat and for the pajamas she wears in Other Mother’s world. Unfortunately, it seems to be out of print. You can often find it on eBay, though you’ll probably have to pay more than retail price.

Want to dress up as Coraline for Halloween? Every year, I get more and more requests for DIY Coraline costumes. To be honest, I find making a Coraline costume is a little bit challenging. While there are some great tutorials on how to make your own Coraline button eyes, there’s nothing that shows you how to make the rest of the costume. It’s not as simple as sewing a yellow raincoat and adding blue yarn hair. So I set out to make my own version of the Coraline costume, with a few twists that make it easier to sew and wear.
This classic version is pretty easy to put together with parts you can find at your local thrift store or fabric shop. And since this is another one of my “no-sew” costumes, you don’t need any fancy equipment to make this one!

If you don’t want to wait for the Coraline costume to come out in stores, you can make your own. Here’s how to make four different Coraline costumes.
You’ll need:
* A black outfit, including a skirt and tights (or leggings)
* Black shoes
* Black gloves
* A yellow sweater or cardigan
* Yellow yarn or a wig (or you can use hair chalk)
* Blue button eyes (you can buy these at craft stores)
* Sewing supplies (such as thread and a needle) or fabric glue
Using thread or fabric glue, attach the blue buttons to the center of the sweater or cardigan. If you want to make it easier, you could also use safety pins. Tie the yellow yarn into pigtails and attach them to either a wig or your hair. If you want to use hair chalk instead of yarn, get some temporary hair chalk that won’t damage your hair. To finish off the look, put on your black outfit with the yellow sweater over it and wear the gloves and shoes.
Coraline is the first stop-motion animated film produced by Laika, released in 2009. Coraline is a young girl who lives with her parents in an old house. They move far away from their friends and family to a house on Ashland Street. When they arrive they find out that their new home is filled with several families and a creepy cat who can talk and walk. Coraline becomes bored and lonely and starts looking around for things to do. She discovers a secret door in her apartment and finds another world where everything seems so much better than her real life. Coraline’s other mother wants her to stay but Coraline has to find out what will happen if she decides to stay forever.
Coraline is based on the 2002 book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, which was published in 2002. It was made into a movie in 2009 by director Henry Selick with Dakota Fanning as the voice of Coraline Jones, Teri Hatcher as her mother Mel Jones, John Hodgman as father Charlie Jones, Robert Bailey Jr as Wybie Lovat, Keith David as the Cat and Dawn French as Miss Spink/Miss Forcible. The movie was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 82nd Academy Awards but lost to Up by Pixar
