We all want to look good during Halloween, but we also don’t want to go broke in the process. Here are some tips on how to make your own affordable Halloween costume.

1. Look online for inspiration. The internet has a wealth of ideas–you just need to know where to look. The best places to start are Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr. These sites allow you to search using specific terms so you can find exactly what you’re looking for and save the images that catch your eye.

2. Make a list of materials and supplies you’ll need. Once you have decided which costume you want to make, create a list of all the materials and supplies that you’ll need in order to make it happen, with estimated prices next to each item. This way, when you go out shopping for the items, your budget won’t be blown because of all the unplanned-for purchases you made while in the store.

3. Find an outfit that fits well as a base for your costume. When coming up with a Halloween costume idea, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be versatile enough for everyday wear after October 31st! If you can find an outfit or piece of clothing that not only works for your costume idea, but also looks good by

Halloween is right around the corner and if you’re anything like me, you love dressing up for Halloween but hate spending a lot of money on a costume that you may not want to wear again (or be able to fit into again for that matter). I’m a college student so money is definitely tight but I still love dressing up as my favorite characters!

When making your own costume, you can save a lot of money by using items from your closet and making some small additions. Here are a few tips to help you make your own affordable Halloween costume:

1. Get Inspired

Ideas for Halloween costumes can come from anywhere! If there’s a movie coming out during Halloween season, think about making a costume of one of the characters in that movie. If you know what your friend is going to dress up as this year, maybe try and think of something funny to wear that would go along with it. If you have no clue what to wear this year, check out Pinterest or even Google images for ideas and inspiration. This year I’m dressing up as Amy Pond from Doctor Who which is actually one of my favorite shows! I got inspired after watching part of the first season on Netflix.

Here are 8 tips on how to create your own Halloween costume:

1. What do you want to be?

The first step in creating your own costume is to decide what you want to be. Do you want to be a superhero or a villain? Do you want to be a celebrity or a cartoon character? You can even think of being something weird like a zombie or a corpse bride. If you have difficulty deciding what character or person that you want to be, here are some ideas:

a) Look for inspiration from famous people, celebrities, TV shows, books and movies. If there is someone who inspires you, why not dress up as him/her? You can also look for inspiration from TV shows and movies. For example, if there is an upcoming movie that will be released this Halloween season, why not dress up as one of the characters of the movie? It could also be a good idea if you dress up as someone from your favorite book or comic book character.

Halloween is less than a month away and if you’re anything like me, you’ve got nothing prepared. If money is tight and you can’t afford to shell out for an expensive costume or need some ideas on how to make your own, then this article is for you.

The first step to making your own costume is deciding what you want to be. Many people allude to popular culture characters and celebrities when deciding on their costumes, but there are a lot of other ways to come up with great ideas. For example, my husband wanted to be a “sexy pirate” one year so we combined those two ideas together. The pirate part was obvious (and the “sexy” part was his idea) but I also knew that he had been working as a bartender at the time so I came up with the idea of making him a “Pirate Mixologist” by adding liquor bottles and bar tools to his costume. It worked out great!

Incorporate Existing Items Into Your Outfit

Are you lucky enough to have an item that can work as a starting point for an entire outfit? That could be the best place to start for building your DIY costume. Maybe you have an old

I’ve always been a fan of homemade costumes. In my opinion, creativity is usually rewarded with more compliments than the money you spent on your ready-made costume.

I see a lot of people looking for inspiration on how to make their own unique costume, so why not share some tips?

1 – Searching the Internet

One of the best things you can do when looking for inspiration is to search the web. There are tons of sites with great ideas and tutorials on how to make your own Halloween costume. You will be amazed at what you can find! Just remember that you should start searching early because it takes time to think of a good idea, find all the materials and then make your costume.

2 – Use your friends for inspiration

Another way to get inspiration is to think about what kind of person you would like to be. Do you want to dress up as someone from history, a movie or cartoon character? Why not ask your friends for suggestions? They probably have some good ideas as well! If you still haven’t found anything interesting enough, check out these sites:

3 – Look at other people’s costumes

If all else fails, look around at what other people are wearing this year. This may sound strange but think about it: if

1. Think of a character, object or theme that you want to be. It could be a movie character, TV series or celebrity. You can also use your favorite book’s character or something from the internet. There are tons of ideas in the web. You can have them as inspiration and make some changes so that people would not recognize who you are trying to imitate exactly.

2. Find something in your closet that would look like your costume. If you can’t find anything there, you can borrow from your siblings or friends but make sure to return the item after the party.

3. Use accessories from your own wardrobe to spice up your costume. For instance, if you’re going to be a clown, you can use your colorful socks for the wig and put on all the colorful accessories you have for that clownish look.

4. Find props around the house that would complete your costume idea.*

Halloween. The holiday of dressing up as your favorite character and getting free candy. As a kid, I loved going to the store and picking out my costume. Now that I am an adult, it is a little more difficult to find a costume that you adore because most costumes are so cheesy. So I decided to make my own Hugh Hefner costume this year.

I have been wanting to be Hugh Hefner for Halloween ever since the PlayBoy mansion was on MTV Cribs in the early 2000’s. Since then, I have probably watched it 10+ times just because I love how much he loves his house.

So here is what you need:

1) Robe – I got mine from Victoria Secret PINK for $50.00

2) Cigar – This is what makes the outfit iconic and recognizable.

3) Silk Boxers – Ideally you could get some silk ones from like Nordstroms, but if you want something that is more affordable just get some off of Amazon or another online retailer!
