Halloween is a wonderful holiday that happens on October 31st. It’s a night when children dress up in costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating in the community. Halloween is a great opportunity for parents to plan special events with their children.

Here are some tips to help you and your child have a wonderful Halloween:

1) Plan a costume for your child that reflects their interests, personality, and any special needs they might have.

2) Make sure your child’s costume is safe. Avoid masks that obstruct vision or costumes with dangling parts that can trip them up.

3) Plan out a safe trick-or-treating route with your child to ensure they aren’t visiting strangers’ homes in the community.

“Clueless” is a 1995 movie about two sisters, Cher and Dionne, who both attend Beverly Hills High School. The characters in the movie are famous for their designer clothes and outrageous hairstyles. This Halloween you can be among them by creating your own “Clueless” costume.

Step 1:

Start with a black or blue skater skirt (bought or made) that falls at least three inches above the knee. Add a pair of patterned tights to coordinate with the skirt. Atop the tights, wear a blouse or sweater that is light-colored and has long sleeves. Make sure that it is cropped so that it shows above the waistline of the skirt. Wear a longer cardigan sweater over this shirt that matches the colors and patterns of the tights. If you do not want to purchase or make all of these items, find a pre-made “Clueless” costume for sale at a costume store or online at websites such as Amazon or eBay.

Step 2:

Locate a set of large, plastic pearl necklaces at any large retailer or dollar store. The pearls should be white and should be linked together in groups of five or six pearls to form one necklace.
