Creating a Custom Red Riding Hood Outfit

Creating a Custom Red Riding Hood Outfit

A blog about how to design and make your own red riding hood outfit.

I’m going to be making a custom red riding hood costume for my daughter and I thought it would be fun to share the process on the blog.

Step 1: The Inspiration

My daughter has been obsessed with dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood lately, but I’ve had a hard time finding a costume that meets her requirements. First of all, she is very opinionated about her clothing. (So am I, but I’m also more flexible.)

She doesn’t like dresses and she doesn’t like ribbons in her hair. She likes pants. And she likes to wear her long, red hair down. So any little red riding hood costume we buy needs to be pants-like and ribbon-free. No luck so far in finding the perfect one!

And second of all, she wants her costume to be “special” in some way. She wants it to be different than regular red riding hood costumes because “it will feel better when I win the costume contest!” (Because at least half of the girls at our school will probably be dressed as

I decided to create a custom Red Riding Hood outfit for my daughter. I wanted something more authentic looking than the store bought costumes. I made her a red cape with a hood, a white peasant style blouse and gathered skirt and red knee high socks.

The first step in creating this costume is to choose your fabric. I chose red velvet for the cape, skirt and cuffs on the blouse. For the blouse I used white broadcloth and for the socks I used red cotton jersey knit.

In my opinion, the red riding hood costume is one of the simplest but most elegant costumes you can wear for Halloween. And it’s not just for children, either: with a little creativity, you can make an adult costume that’s sure to stand out from the crowd.

The key to creating an interesting costume is to make it your own. If you’re making a red riding hood outfit from scratch, then start by finding pattern pieces and fabrics that fit your personal style and preferences. You can also find ready-to-wear options online or at local stores, and then alter those pieces to fit your personal taste.

Either way, here are some tips on how to create your own unique take on this classic fairy tale wardrobe staple.

Welcome to Cheerleader Custom Designs!

In this blog you will learn how to design and create your own custom costume. We will be using the red riding hood outfit as an example.

This is a great exercise for cheerleaders, coaches and parents. It will help you understand exactly what goes into creating a cheerleading uniform, where all the pieces go and why they are placed where they are. It will also give you an opportunity to really think about your team’s style and image.

Halloween is just around the corner. What are you going to be? If you really want to make an impression, skip the store-bought costume and go for something original. Whether you want to be a pirate, vampire or robot, it’s easy to make your own outfit at home.

Here’s how I made a custom fantasy-themed Red Riding Hood outfit for my daughter (see pictures below).

I have always loved Halloween, and always loved sewing. I have been making and designing my own costumes for years now, and decided to share the information with other people who might be interested in making their own costumes.

I will be sharing some of my favorite patterns, tips and tricks that I have learned over the years, as well as some information on how to create a costume from scratch. Please feel free to ask questions or make comments.

Step 1: Gather your supplies. You will need a white long sleeve shirt, red fabric for the dress (I used about 2 yards), brown fur (I used two types of fur, but you can use just one or get some fake leather), a red hooded sweatshirt, pinking sheers, scissors, and a sewing machine. This project will take about 4 hours to complete.
