How to make your own Pikachu Costume

Welcome to my guide on how to make a Pikachu costume! I made this costume for the costume contest at the 2016 Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago. I was pretty happy with how it turned out, so I decided to make a blog post about how I did it. Hopefully this will be useful for anyone else who is thinking about making their own Pikachu cosplay.
This is my second year in a row making a Pokemon based cosplay for Lollapalooza. Last year, I made a homemade Squirtle costume. It was a lot of fun and got me 2nd place in the festival’s cosplay contest, so I figured if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!
For this project, I wanted to make something that would be recognizable and eye catching, but also relatively simple and easy to make. The first thing that came to my mind was Pikachu because of its iconic shape and color scheme. The costume only has 3 main parts: the headpiece (which is basically just a hat), the tail, and the body/arms piece. A step by step guide on how to make a Pikachu costume.
Step 1: Find a cheap yellow hoodie.
A cheap yellow hoodie is essential for any Pikachu cosplay. You can find one at your local thrift store or online.
Step 2: Cut out the hoodie’s face.
You’ll need to cut out the face of the hoodie so that only the ears remain.
Step 3: Add a zipper to the back of the hoodie.
Now you’ll need to add a zipper to the back of your hoodie so that you can take it on and off easily. The best way to do this is with a sewing machine, but if you don’t have one then hand stitching will work just fine too!
Step 4: Sew two black buttons onto each side of the zipper opening for eyes.
