DIY Wednesday Addams Costume (less than $100)

One of my all time favorite costumes to make was a DIY Wednesday Addams costume. I’m a huge fan of punny Halloween costumes, so I love how easy it is to make a quick pun using the name of arguably one of the best characters from The Addams Family.

I found most of the components for this costume at Savers and Goodwill, as well as a few things on Etsy. I love Halloween and try to do an elaborate costume every year, so it’s great to be able to find items that can be repurposed in this way.

To recreate this look:

Dress: This is the most important part of the costume and can be found at thrift stores or online. I found this one at Goodwill for $5 and sewed it up a bit to make it more form fitting. I also added some lace around the collar. You could also wear a dress you already own and add white collars like these ones on Etsy (affiliate links). If you’re going for a punny Halloween costume, consider adding some letters (like WTF) using iron-on letters or painting them on with

Hi guys! Halloween is coming up and I wanted to share a DIY Wednesday Addams costume I made last year.

Wednesday is one of my favorite characters from the Addams family. She’s is dark, funny, and seems like the kind of person who would be fun to hang out with. She’s also extremely fashionable in a very unique way.

The costume was really easy to make, and it was also pretty cheap. Most of the stuff I bought were from Amazon for less than $100. I also borrowed some shoes from my mom, which saved me another $30 or so..

I recently made myself a Wednesday Addams costume for Halloween. I don’t have a sewing machine or any fancy tools, so I needed to keep it simple. Most of my pieces were ordered online and took about 2 weeks to come in. The total cost was just under $100 and it was pretty easy to make!

I ordered the dress from Amazon and chose this one because it came with the collar attached. I ordered a medium in black and it fit perfectly! I also ordered these shoes from Amazon- they were true to size, but were very narrow in the toe area. The hair was by far the most challenging part, but I’ll do my best to explain how to achieve this look.

The hair is braided into two braids that are pinned down on each side of her head. Most of the photos you’ll see show her with two braids that meet at the bottom and are tied then as one braid, but if you look closely at some photos you can see that she actually has two separate braids.

If you have long hair, you can just use your own hair for this part. If not, like me, you can order these braiding hair extensions from Amazon (black) and use those instead. You will need one

Dear reader,

I decided to make a Wednesday Addams costume for my son. I could not find any helpful guides or tutorials on the internet, so I decided to make one myself. This post is my personal take on how I made a Wednesday Addams Halloween Costume. Hope you enjoy!

In the classic 90s TV show, The Addams Family, Wednesday is the youngest daughter who has a dark sense of humor and is always dressed in black. For Halloween this year, I decided to recreate her iconic look.

I first bought the dress. It took me several hours to find one that was less than $100. I found this one on Amazon here: [link to item]

Next I bought a red wig to match her hair color as well as black tights and some black shoes. You can find similar ones on Amazon here: [link to item]

Finally I bought some white makeup and drew on her signature white collar with eyeliner. You can find it on Amazon here: [link to item]

To finish the look, don’t forget Wednesday’s characteristic deadpan expression!

Wednesdays are my favourite day of the week. I think it’s because of Wednesday Adams, from The Addams Family. She is a gloomy girl with a passion for Halloween and all things macabre (a woman after my own heart!). A few years ago I decided to dress up as Wednesday for Halloween, and I loved it so much that I have continued to do so every year since! Here’s how to get this look without breaking the bank.

Materials:

1 white button down shirt ($20)

1 pair of black pants ($15)

1 black belt ($6) – optional, but it helps keep the shirt bloused

1 black turtleneck sweater ($12) – make sure you can fit it over your head without pulling your hair out!

1 white collar ($10) – you could also just cut one out of cardboard, but this one is sturdy and will last for years. It’s also machine washable so that it will look crisp each time you wear it.

1 red bow tie ($5) – you can make this yourself or buy one online. This one has a velcro closure which makes it easy to put on and take off.

1 pair of long white socks ($5)

My favorite holiday is Halloween. I love how you can dress up as whatever you want and have fun with your friends. My boyfriend’s favorite movie is The Addams Family, so when it came time to decide on a couple’s costume, we decided to go with Wednesday and Pugsley.

I knew my costume was going to be easy; all I needed was a white collared shirt and black pants. We already owned the striped socks, but everything else needed to be purchased. Luckily for us, Target had the perfect shoes. I scoured the internet for a wig and found one by Sepia for $30. That was my most expensive purchase.

To complete my look, I wanted to make sure that I had the perfect makeup: dark eye shadow, red lipstick, and powdery white skin. There are many Pinterest tutorials that show you how to do this type of makeup. My advice is to use what you already own—you don’t need special makeup for this look!
