Hermione Granger is a well-loved character from J.K. Rowling’sseries of books and films. This tutorial will focus on cosplaying Hermione from the Harry Potter films, specifically the fifth installment, but many of these tips are applicable to Hermione from other films or books.

Step 1: The Wand

Hermione Granger carries a wand in all Harry Potter films. Her wand is made of vine wood and contains a dragon heartstring core. It is 10 inches long and quite bendy. You can find replicas of Hermione’s wand online (just Google “Harry Potter Hermione Granger wand”), or you can make your own by stripping the bark off a small vine and cutting it to size. You can use a hot glue gun to attach the handle, just be sure not to burn yourself!

Step 2: The Wand Holster

Hermione wears her wand tucked into her belt throughout most of the film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which makes it easy for her to draw it during fights without fumbling around in her bag. You can get an inexpensive brown leather belt at any department store, or use an old belt you have lying around if you prefer

Part of the fun of cosplaying is making your own costume. As a cosplayer, you can transform into your favorite character by sewing and creating your own look! This tutorial will show you how I transformed into Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Costuming as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter is an easy way to make a great costume.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to put together a Hermione costume in five easy steps.

1. Hair: Hermione has bushy brown hair. You can get a wig, or do your own hair. The easiest way to replicate her hairstyle is to start with straight hair and then pull it back into two high ponytails, twisting the ends so that they become little curls on the end of each ponytail. Then, just like Hermione, you can stick your wand in it! If you have short hair, you may need to tease it out a bit first before putting it up in the ponytails.

2. Robes: In most of the films, Hermione wears a black robe with gold trim and red lining on the inside hood. The easiest way to get robes like hers is simply to buy a set of Harry Potter costume robes for kids; these run about $30 for the set and fit most grown women. In Prisoner of Azkaban (the third film), however, Hermione’s robes are green instead of black; if you want that look instead, you can find green robes on Amazon for about $40.
