How To Dress Like M&M’s

Dressing like your favorite M&M is easy, and it’s a great way to show your unique personality.

Steps

1.Find a red colored shirt and bottoms that are the same shade of red all over. If you can not find the same shade of red all over, you may need to dye your clothes until they are the exact same color. You can do this in the washer with the appropriate dye.

2.Find some fabric paint that matches the yellow that is on M&M’s. Apply this paint to your outfit in the appropriate places (see pictures).

3.Find fabric glue and glue tiny brown sequins onto your outfit as an outline for where you have painted on the yellow paint. This will give it a 3D effect so it looks more like real M&M’s.

Step 1: Choose a Color

Select your favorite color M&M.

Step 2: Supplies

To make your M&M costume you will need:

– An extra large green t-shirt,

– A red or colored pillow case,

– Two matching bags of felt, preferably green for the “m” and red for the “m”, (or whichever colors you chose)

– 40 to 60 yards of white tulle fabric, for the skirt part of the costume. You may need more or less depending on how full you want it to be, but this should be enough to fit a size 12 adult. You can find tulle at any fabric store. It comes in several colors so you can pick one that matches your costume best.

– Needle and thread (or sewing machine).

What you need:

– A red or green shirt

– Yellow paper

– Black permanent marker

– Colored tape (optional)

Turn your shirt inside out and lay it on a table. Then, using a ruler and a black pen, draw lines to divide the shirt into sections that look like M&M wrappers. Once you have finished drawing the lines, cut along them with scissors. Cut just enough to make a small opening between each section. Now turn your shirt right side in and wear it over another shirt. You are ready to go!

I’m making costumes for my kids this Halloween and I figured I’d share some tips in case you’re making costumes too. This is the first of several posts on the subject.

One of the costumes I’m making this year is an M&M costume. It’s not hard to make. Dress your kid in red clothes. Get a green turtleneck, cut the neck out of it and sew it at the waist, like a giant necklace (or for girls, a giant boa).

If you want to get fancy, you could also make a white hat that looks like an M&M sitting on top of your child’s head. But if you’re not going to be outside in the dark and walking around a lot, or if your child’s hair is long enough to hide it from above, it probably won’t be worth the extra effort.

1. Buy a red body suit and a green body suit. How much you spend on these is up to you, but I recommend going cheap. The next day after Halloween you’ll be throwing them in the closet, never to be seen again, so don’t spend too much. I went to Party City for my costumes and bought the cheapest ones I could find.

2. Buy two packs of felt fabric – one red and one green. You will use this to make the M&Ms logo that goes on the front of the costume.

3. Buy two packages of round foam stickers – again, one red and one green. These will be used to make the M&M’s buttons on the front of your costume.

4. Buy some black fabric paint so that you can draw on lettering for your costume (see step 6).

5. Grab a pair of scissors and a marker pen that you can use to draw around the felt pieces on your body suit (see step 6).

You will need the following materials:

* M&M template, printed on paper

* Scissors

* Brown pleather (faux leather) fabric (1.5 yards)

* Glue gun and glue sticks

* Red felt (enough for two circles, 9″ in diameter)

* White felt (enough for one circle, 9″ in diameter)

Cut out the M&M template. Print it out, using the size you want to make your costume. You can use different templates to create different-sized costumes–just keep in mind that you’ll need to adjust the amount of fabric you purchase accordingly. The template provided here is for a costume that fits an adult. The template should be about 10″ tall when printed out at 100%. Once your costume is complete, you can wear it over regular clothes and use it as a Halloween costume or stage prop!

Cut your pleather fabric into four separate pieces, each with dimensions slightly larger than the template’s cutout. Use your scissors to cut four pieces of pleather of the same size. If you’re using a different-sized template than the one provided here, be sure to adjust your measurements accordingly. For this pattern, which is sized for an adult, cut four rectangles

You’ll need:

• Red, Yellow, Blue and Green Body Paint

• Red, Yellow, Blue and Green Nylons

• Red, Yellow, Blue and Green Body Suits
