Supplies needed:
1. An old or thrift store bought blue button down shirt.
2. Red fabric that is at least as long as you need for the vest and long enough to wrap around your chest and back with extra room. For me, this was 1 yard of fabric (60 inches) wide by 2 yards (72 inches) long.
3. Sewing kit with thread, pins, and scissors.

There are several versions of Marty’s outfit that he wore during the course of the movie, but in this post we’ll just be focusing on the main one.
The first thing you need to do is find yourself a pair of faded Levis 501 jeans. These are not easy to find these days. Luckily, there are a few online stores that sell vintage pairs or can create something bespoke.
You’ll also need a pair of Nike Air Mag trainers and a red puffer vest (or gilet if you’re in Europe).
Finally, make sure to get yourself a denim jacket and maybe some Ray Ban sunglasses too.

The Marty McFly costume is one of the most popular Halloween costumes of all time. It comes from the movie Back to the Future and its main character, Marty McFly. You can make your own Marty McFly costume with these steps!
Things You’ll Need:
– light denim jacket
– gray or white t-shirt
– jeans (light blue, with cuffs rolled up)
– brown belt with a large buckle
– white sneakers
– red puffy vest (optional)
The following steps will show you how to make your own Marty McFly costume.
Step One
The first step is to get a red jacket. We picked up an old jacket that already had some holes in it. You can get one of those jackets at any thrift store.
Step Two
You need a white shirt underneath the jacket. It doesn’t matter what kind you get because it is likely going to end up with some holes in it.
Step Three
Get some blue jeans. We used some old jeans that were too tight for us by using the trick described below.
In the movie, Marty McFly was wearing some very tight jeans. If you can find some that fit, then great! But if not, there is a cheap trick you can use to make them look tighter without having to actually wear them: Just use sandpaper on the areas that are baggy and they will fray, making them look tight!
So you want to create a Marty McFly costume and go back to the future? Well, here is how I did it.
First I went out and purchased a red vest from the local department store.
Then I purchased a white shirt from the local department store.
Then I purchased some blue jeans from the local department store.
Then I purchased some white Nike high top sneakers with red laces and Velcro strap (if you can’t find these, just get any white Nikes).
Then I purchased a toy DeLorean time machine with the doors open (don’t get the one that has plastic wheels, because it won’t roll). You will have to glue cardboard around the bottom of this so it will look like it’s floating, but you’ll want to wait until later for this.
Then I went to a costume shop and bought a black wig (any hairstyle will do) and some aviator sunglasses.
