The thing that makes Harley Quinn so fun is her quirky style. Sure, she’s crazy, but it’s not just the fact that she wears a baseball bat as an accessory. It’s not just the fact that she has a pet hyena (if you are going to get a pet hyena, always name it Brutus). It’s not even the fact that she has an inappropriate crush on The Joker. It’s her makeup!

Harley Quinn makeup is the best part of her costume because it really helps to set her apart from all of those boring supervillains out there. While Catwoman is pretty much just another villain in a skintight black outfit, Harley Quinn stands out in her bright red and blue hair and makeup.

The key to this look is taking risks with your makeup. This is not a look for someone who is afraid to stand out. If you want to be noticed at your Halloween party this year, this is definitely the look for you!

How To Make Your Harley Quinn Costume Through Makeup

If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to go all out this Halloween and try to capture the look of your favorite characters. While it’s easy to throw on a wig and dress for some, for others, makeup can be the important piece that brings the whole look together. That’s why we reached out to professional makeup artist Rania Abouzeid to see how she’d transform into everyone’s favorite “Suicide Squad” character, and she delivered.

Abouzeid went for a more classic take on the character and offers these tips for re-creating her look:

1. Start with a clean canvas and apply moisturizer, eye cream, primer and foundation (she used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero) followed by concealer as needed (she used Urban Decay Naked Concealer).

2. Set everything with translucent powder (she used NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder).

3. Apply

For Harley Quinn makeup, you will need two main colors: red and blue. The best way to accomplish this is using a lipstick palette in these colors; you can find these at most convenient stores.

How To Do The Makeup:

Step one: Use the red color and apply it to your lips. You can use the lip brush to make the line more precise, but if you don’t want to use that you can simply apply it with your finger.

Step two: Apply the blue makeup to your eyes. You may also want to do your cheeks. Apply it in a light, more faded tone than on your eyes so that you don’t overdo it.

Step three: Use a black liner pencil (or liquid liner) to line around your eyes, creating the “mask” shape that Harley Quinn has in Suicide Squad. You can do this over top of the blue eyeshadow if you’d like; just make sure they blend well together.

I’ll be honest with you: I did not want to do this post. There’s so many tutorials out there on how to recreate Harley’s makeup. So many that I don’t even want to bother. But then again, there’s so many tutorials that I can easily find different things from each one and make my own version, which is exactly what I did!

Now, if you don’t know who Harley Quinn is (which would be a tough one), she’s Joker’s girlfriend in Batman. She was born Harleen Quinzel, but then she went crazy, fell in love with Joker and became Harley Quinn.
