I have been asked by a few people how to sell my old movies and video games. I have been selling them for years, and here is what I have learned.

What to sell:

You are going to get the most money for movies that came out in the last year or two. There is no reason to sell anything older than that because you will get very little money for it. You might want to hang onto older movies as well because they might be worth something in the future (or not).

Most stores will not buy any video games or systems that are over 4 years old. The same goes for CDs and DVDs. Don’t expect to make much money off of your old stuff, but you might make enough money to go out and buy something new.

Many of us have dozens of movies and video games we’ve bought in the past but never watched. The problem is you can’t sell them back at a retail store like Best Buy or Game Stop.

The trick is to sell them online. This can be a hassle, but the payoffs can be great if you do it right. Here are the steps I follow when selling my old movies and video games.

Movies: Amazon vs Half.com

There are two good sites to sell movies on – Amazon and Half.com (owned by Ebay). I recommend trying both and seeing which one works better for you. Generally, I find that Amazon has more buyers than Half.com, but that you often get more money on Half.com per item sold since they don’t charge a listing fee and only charge 10% of your final sale price.

It’s that time of year again. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and you’re looking for things to sell on eBay. We’ve got a few suggestions for what to look for when you’re selling video games, movies, CDs, and books!

Video Games

– Sell your used video games at a local video game store. They will pay you in cash for your older games. Keep in mind that these stores buy based on rarity and demand, and not necessarily what system the game is for. If a game is rare and in demand, they’ll buy it—even if it’s for Atari 2600. If a game isn’t very popular (or if it’s too new), they won’t buy it or give you very little money for it. They may even ask if they can trade you instead of giving you cash.

– Ask around—especially if you have an older console like an Atari 2600 or Nintendo 64. There are many people who are nostalgic about these systems and may be willing to pay more than an average consumer would be willing to pay.

– If you have any sports games, make sure that they’re licensed by the NFL or NBA (or other league), otherwise no one will buy them!
