Thinking of making your own costume this year? We’ve found that it’s not as hard as you might think. Here’s a rundown of the steps we took to make our mummy Halloween costumes.
Supplies:
– One roll gauze bandage (it will come in a big roll)
– Roll of “Tombstone Wrap,” which is clear plastic wrap for wrapping flowers or floral arrangements. We found it at Joann Fabrics.
– Glue gun
– White fabric paint (we used Tulip brand Soft Fabric Paint Dimensional Paint)
– Paint brush
– Old leotard and tights for the girls (you can also find cheap ones at Walmart)
Method:
1. Begin by wrapping your child in the clear plastic wrap. This is a little tricky because it sticks to itself and wants to keep moving around on you. It was helpful to have another adult help me with this part! I started on one arm and then wrapped them up completely, leaving room for the head to come out on top. Just be sure to wrap them tightly so you don’t get too much space between layers of gauze later on. When you’re done, cut them out of their plastic

As a mom of three boys, I’ve always tried to find something that was a little different than what everyone else would be wearing. But it had to be something easy and affordable. A few years ago I bought some supplies at a local craft store and used them to make this mummy costume.
