Most people think of costumes as either a store-bought affair or a complex, artful getup that requires hundreds of dollars and hours of labor. But there’s another option, here on the Modesty Scarf: where I show you how to make your own pumpkin spice costume.
It’s no secret that pumpkin spice is the de facto flavor of fall (though maple deserves more respect). The syrup, the spice blend, the candles, the lattes, even the scented chapsticks … we can’t seem to get enough of that cinnamon-y goodness.
This simple tutorial will show you how to craft a simple yet elegant pumpkin spice costume—and it’s perfect for Halloween! You’ll need just two items from your pantry and a little imagination.
Belle Costume Modesty Scarf: where I show you how to make your own Belle costume.
I am a pretty big fan of the Disney princess movies. And like most women and girls, I enjoy dressing up like them. And I also like to sew (most of the time). So when I set out to make my daughter’s Belle costume this year, I thought it would be fun to make a tutorial on how I made the modesty scarf that goes under the neckline.
So if you want to dress up as Belle this Halloween, you can use this tutorial as well! It’s really easy – and fast!
We are going to start with a piece of fabric that looks like this…
You can just fold the piece of fabric in half (right sides together) and pin along the bottom and one side. Sew these two seams with about a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
If you are a true fan of all things pumpkin spice, you’re going to need a pumpkin spice costume! Now you can join the ranks of your fellow PSL drinkers and wear your love for this fall beverage on your sleeve, or more accurately around your neck.
I’ve posted about my love for the PSL before in my Pumpkin Spice Costume Dress post and now I’m back again with another fun way to show your love for this latte. This time we’re making a Pumpkin Spice Costume Modesty Scarf.
This modesty scarf is perfect for showing off your love of the orange gourd in a classy way! It’s long enough to use as a regular scarf but it’s got enough flair up top to make people aware that you are actually wearing an accessory that says “PSL.”
It’s almost October, which means that it is basically Halloween. So I thought now would be a good time to show you how to make your own pumpkin spice costume.
First, you need to start with a white cotton scarf and some paint. I’ve been using this fabric paint from Internet for this project, but you could use any kind of fabric paint with any type of fabric. Paint the scarf like so:
Let the painted scarf dry for about 24 hours before wearing it anywhere.
And that’s it! Your scarf is ready to wear.
Hi, I’m Belle, and I have a problem. I’m addicted to pumpkin spice lattes. It’s getting so bad that it’s pretty much all I wear. And it’s not even a seasonally appropriate thing to wear anymore, because now you can get them year round.
So here’s what I do: I wear this scarf for modesty, but really it’s just to hide my pumpkin spice addiction. But today, we’re going to fix that problem and turn this scarf into a pumpkin spice costume.
What you’ll need is the scarf: check; ric rac; glue gun: check; some fabric paint: check; and a paint brush: check.
First thing we want to do is measure out the ric rac. So we’re going to lay it out on our table and make sure that it’s long enough to go all the way around our neck with some extra at the end. We’re going to measure it against our neck first, then we’ll add an extra inch or two just in case. And then we’ll cut it off with some scissors.
Next, we’re going to take our glue gun and add some dots of glue along the back of our scarf in between each of the holes that are already there so that when
This pumpkin spice costume tutorial will help you get the perfect look. If you’re going to dress up for a special occasion, you want it to be special. And if it’s not, then why bother? I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for some way to make my pumpkin spice costume stand out from all of the others.
You might be thinking that it’s not possible to do this. How could anyone possibly make pumpkin spice costumes that are different from everyone else? Well, as it turns out, there are some great ways to make your pumpkin spice costumes stand out from everyone else’s. All you need is a little creativity and a little imagination!
The first thing you need to do is think about what kind of pumpkin spice costume you want. Do you want something simple or something elaborate? Do you want to dress up as a witch or a wizard? Do you want to dress up as Mr. Pumpkin Spice himself?
If you’re like me, perhaps you’d like to dress up as a pumpkin spice latte this Halloween, but you don’t want to spend $40 on a costume that’s basically just a tank top. (I also don’t have the stomach for it.)
Luckily, there’s an easy solution: just add a scarf! That way you can wear your regular clothes and still get into the spirit of the season. This is what I came up with:
It’s basically just a scarf, but if you look closely you’ll see that it has the colors of a pumpkin spice latte. The cool thing about it is that it drapes across your neck in a way that makes it look kind of like coffee spilling over the side of a cup. Here’s how I did it:
