When you think of planning a trip to Disney, most people don’t think about staying in an area outside of Disney World but there are many reasons you might want to consider a hotel or villa rental just outside of the Walt Disney World Resort.

1. Lower cost accommodations – this is probably the biggest advantage to staying outside of the parks and closer to Orlando in general, as there are more than enough things to do in Orlando that you could go into town for dinner and not even feel like you missed out on anything at Disney if you chose not to go back for the evening events. I love that some hotels offer free local transportation service, making it so easy to get around town. The best way to get around Central Florida is with a car, but if your accommodations include free shuttle service then that’s one less thing you have to worry about doing on vacation! You can also use Uber

If you’re looking for a place to stay close to the Disney parks that’s clean, friendly and affordable then look no further than the Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista. We have stayed here twice now and it’s been great both times. It’s located close to many of the attractions, has a great pool and shuttle service to take you where ever you need to go in the area.

The kids love all of the Disney characters that are painted around the hotel and of course the pool area with its two water slides. The rooms are spacious and clean, perfect for a family of four. They were also very accommodating when we needed to change our reservation dates on short notice (I can’t recommend them enough!).

I opened the door and a moth flew out. At least, I thought it was a moth. It was the size of a small bird, and had the same flapping-fluttering flight as a moth, but it had a body shape that was more like a large bumble bee. There were no wings visible so I couldn’t see any patterns that would identify it.

After the intrusion, I got back to my task. A few minutes later, another moth (or whatever it was) flew in through the open door. This one clearly had patterns on its wings.

It didn’t take much searching on Google to find out what they were: Cecropia moths. They’re North America’s largest moths, with a wingspan of 6 inches or more. They don’t have mouths – they live only briefly after emerging from their cocoons as adults; long enough to mate and lay eggs and don’t need to eat.
