What Does It Mean To Be a Mermaid? 10 Pro Tips To Ensure You Have The Best Time Being One

It’s All About the Tail.

Ariel made it look easy, but it takes a lot of practice to become a great mermaid. Make sure you have your mermaid tail before you start practicing so you can swim like a pro in no time!

Mermaid School is Hard.

Being a mermaid is all about attitude. One of the most important lessons we learned from Ariel and her friends is to always bounce back from life’s hardships with optimism and enthusiasm.

Take Care of Your Tail.

Tails can be pretty delicate, so make sure you take care of yours by following our Care Instructions (which can be found here: https://www.shopdisney.com/costumes-clothing/disney-store-mermaid-tail-care-instructions). It may not be as easy as flapping your tail, but it’s just as important!

Be Open to New Adventures.

Whether you’re under the sea or otherwise, adventure is out there! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for new experiences and opportunities to explore.

Practice Makes Perfect.

Like anything worth doing well, becoming a professional mermaid takes time, patience, and lots of hard work!

The other day, I was walking along the beach when I met a young woman who was just sitting there staring out into the ocean. Just sitting there, not really doing anything.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her. “Why are you just sitting here on the beach when it’s such a beautiful day?”

“I used to be a mermaid,” she said. “But then my best friend got eaten by a shark, and now I’m depressed.”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” I told her. “But why did you quit being a mermaid? Why don’t you just try again?”

“I can’t,” she said. “Being a mermaid is hard.” And then she started crying again. “It’s too hard.”

Ariel! You’re alive! And still being a mermaid! This is great news! But while we’re on the subject of being mermaids, there’s something I’ve been wondering about: What does it mean to be a mermaid? What kind of mermaid are you? Are you like me, who can’t go more than five minutes without touching water? Or are you like Flounder, who doesn’t even need water to stay alive? How do you know

1. Always have your tail on; you never know when you might need to make a quick getaway.

2. Wear your hair in a bright color or don’t worry about coloring it at all. I have red hair, and my sister has blue, but all of my friends have green, purple, or pink hair too! You can also leave your hair natural if you want!

3. Keep a comb and mirror handy at ALL times. You never know when you will need to fix your hair.

4. Wear flowers in your hair for decoration (or to hide from pirates).

5. Wear a flower crown for more decoration, or wear one on top of another one if you are feeling extra fancy!

6. If you are feeling extra fancy and like to dress up, wear flowers as jewelry! Or just because it looks nice!

7. Be nice to everyone you meet because they may be able to help you later on in life! This includes other mermaids as well as fish, octopi, sharks, whales…you name it! Everyone deserves respect and kindness no matter what their species is 🙂

8. Don’t go near the surface unless absolutely necessary; humans aren’t very nice and they will try to capture you

1. Be sure you have the right costume.

There are many different kinds of mermaid costumes, so be sure you have the right one! If you want to look like Ariel, get a red wig and red dress with seashells on it. If you want to look like Princess Marina from Atlantis, wear a purple costume and blonde wig. If you want to be sexy, get a bikini top and mermaid tail in your favorite color!

2. Have fun!

You can’t go wrong with being a mermaid! It doesn’t matter what kind of costume you wear or whether or not people believe that you’re really one; it’s about enjoying yourself and having fun for Halloween night. Who cares if someone says they don’t believe in mermaids? Just smile and tell them “You haven’t seen me yet!”. That will make their day!

3. Be prepared to have lots of pictures taken with kids who love princesses (or just pretty girls)!

It’s not uncommon for little ones who are excited about seeing their favorite character at Disneyland or Disney World to ask for pictures with them. Be prepared to say yes and smile big when they come running up asking if they can take their picture next to someone dressed as their favorite princess (
