You’ve probably been to a Halloween party or two in your life, but have you ever wondered how those people who put together the most amazing costumes did it? Well, we do it all the time and we can help you do it too. There are many reasons why you should put together your own costume rather than buy one:
1. It’s cheaper
2. You can make it truly unique
3. You can showcase your creativity and talent
4. You get to work with other people and make new friends
5. You will be remembered!
6. It is fun! And whether you are young or old, there is no better time of the year than this fun holiday to express yourself with a costume that no one has ever seen before.
7. If you make it yourself, you will never see another person wearing the same thing at your party!
8. You get to have fun with family and friends while putting together a costume of your dreams.
1) Planning
The first step to creating your own costume is to plan out what you want to make. You need to know the exact details of your costume because the quality of your costume depends on how well it’s planned out. Also, planning will save you money and time in the long run. For example, if you plan a costume that is too complicated to execute, you may end up using more material than expected or having to purchase extra materials. To guarantee that your costume is as perfect as possible, make sure you follow these steps:
Decide on the theme of your costume
List all of the materials needed for the costume
Make a list of stores that sell these materials
2) Measurements
After completing your plan, you will need to take some measurements for your costume. This step is important because if you don’t get accurate measurements, your costume may not fit correctly. Taking measurements beforehand will also save you time and money because if your costume doesn’t fit properly, you may have to buy new fabric or adjust parts of it. In order to get accurate measurements, use a flexible measuring tape and measure across the widest part of each area (chest, waist, hips). It’s better to go over these areas twice just in case
Did you know that $8 billion a year is spent on Halloween costumes? That’s more than Americans spend on back-to-school clothes each year. But what about the people who aren’t spending all that money? Whether it’s because you don’t have the money or because you just want to be unique, making your own costume can be easy and fun.
1. Start with a simple idea. What are your favorite things? Do you love sports? Do you have a favorite movie or TV show? Any actress or musician that rocks your world? Your idea doesn’t have to be elaborate to make a great costume.
2. Think about what items you already have in your closet that could help bring your costume ideas to life. Items like old hats, scarves, shoes and purses can add to your costume outfit and save you some cash at the same time!
3. Now head out shopping. We recommend checking out secondhand stores first, but places like Dollar Stores and craft stores can also offer affordable options for your costume needs.
4. When buying costumes from department stores, keep in mind that these are often made with lesser quality materials and are designed to fall apart after one use so they can sell as many costumes as possible each year. If
Halloween is right around the corner and if you are anything like me, then you will be scrambling to find something to wear last minute. If you are smart though, you have already started planning for this spooky holiday. Maybe you have already purchased your costume and have it hanging in your closet, or maybe you plan on being a vampire yet again, who knows! For those who haven’t decided what they want to be and are looking for some ideas, I have the perfect solution for you.
You may not know this but I am a costume designer by trade. I have worked on Broadway shows as well as film and television projects. If there’s one thing I know about costumes it’s that it doesn’t always take a lot of time or money to put together something impressive with style and flair.
In this blog post I’m going to show you how easy it is to put together your own costume at home without breaking the bank.
I’ve chosen 5 costumes that come from movies/tv shows/comic books/video games that are really popular right now so if your friends aren’t too creative they may end up wearing the same thing as you! Or they can just buy their costumes from the store, which is fine too (wink wink).
Step 1: Purchase a large piece of clothing that you can use to decorate on. I prefer using a white sheet, because it’s easy to dye and draw on. This is your canvas.
Step 2: Draw on the sheet with fabric paint or permanent markers (if you still have some from your younger days). This is the fun part!
Step 3: Get creative with it. Use buttons, sequins and fabric glue to create your own character. The sky is the limit!
Step 4: Once you are happy with how your costume looks, it is time to cut out holes for your head and arms so that you can wear it.
Step 5: Grab a pair of scissors and cut out your head and arm holes. Make sure you don’t cut too small or too big! You want this costume to be comfortable for all night partying!
Step 6: Now that you have completed the main part of your costume, it is time to accessorize yourself. Some people like wearing hats while others prefer wigs, masks or makeup. Choose what works best for you – remember this isn’t supposed to be difficult!
Step 7: It’s time for accessories – belts, shoes, gloves and jewelry
Tired of the same old thing for Halloween? Tired of spending money on a costume that you are only going to wear once? Looking for something original? Why not make your own costume! It’s fun, easy, and inexpensive. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Step 1: Decide what you want to be
Are you looking for something scary or funny? Are you looking for something cute or sexy? Do you just want to dress up as your favorite superhero? There are so many options out there and deciding what direction you want to go will help narrow down your choices.
Step 2: Think about your favorite movies, TV shows, books, cartoons etc
Do any of these have characters that you would like to dress up as? If so, this is a great way to find inspiration. You can find characters from all sorts of sources. If you are stuck finding an idea, think about some of these sources and see what comes up.
Step 3: What do you have lying around the house already that might work with your idea?
Have a spare pair of jeans lying around that you can cut into jean shorts or even cut into strips and make them into a jean skirt? Have an old white shirt that could be used

“It’s October 31st. You’ve just gone Trick-or-Treating and you’re bored with all the candy you’ve collected. You want to do something else that’s fun, but what?”
“When trying to come up with a costume idea on your own, there are many things to think about. First, what materials do I have available? It may be easier to purchase a few items from a store or online than it is to make an entire costume from scratch. Second, what time do I have? If you have only a few hours or only a day or two, you’ll need an easy costume that can be done quickly with minimal effort. Third, what budget do I have? Some costumes take more money than others so don’t break the bank!”
