If you have a little one who loves the movie Frozen, you may be looking for an Olaf costume idea! The movie was a huge hit and kids are still raving about it. We have some ideas that will help you create a simple Olaf costume idea to make your kids’ Halloween a memorable one.

We love Frozen and have watched it countless times since its release. I’ve seen Olaf costumes for sale at stores, but they don’t look anything like the cute snowman from the movie! In fact, some of them are downright scary. I decided to create an Olaf costume with my son using things we had around the house. It took all of 10 minutes and cost nothing.

The key to making this costume is using black fleece or felt for the eyes, mouth and buttons on his body. You can use felt for his carrot nose and our trick to keeping his head on was to use safety pins! This was also a good way to attach his arms to the body of his costume.

Halloween is just around the corner! For those of you who have children, or who are young at heart, this is a time to celebrate. But if you are like me and are dreading yet another sleepless night of trying to find the perfect costume for your kids, I am here to help. And for those of you who want to bring out the inner child in your significant other, I have a few more suggestions on what might be best for them.

For starters, some good ideas for kids costumes include: Olaf from Frozen, a princess (think Elsa or Cinderella), Superman or Batman (depending on which superhero your kid likes best), or any other character from their favorite book or movie. The possibilities are truly endless!

For adults, look no further than an adult-sized Olaf costume!! This will surely bring out the inner child in your significant other and will make for a fun evening together as a family.

If your kids are anything like mine, they are constantly asking to watch the new Disney movie Frozen. We have watched the movie so many times that I am pretty sure I can quote the whole thing! One of my daughters’ favorite characters is Olaf, and when I was trying to think of a quick and easy costume for this Halloween, I thought that Olaf would be perfect.

Here is what you need for an Olaf costume:

White t-shirt or sweatshirt (I used an old white t-shirt that we had lying around.)

White pants (You could also use a white skirt.)

Black felt

Google eyes

Orange construction paper or cardstock

White pom poms

Hot glue gun/glue sticks

Scissors

Once you have all of your supplies gathered up, all you have to do is cut out a couple of shapes from the black felt. Use the scissors to make some “feathers” for the arms and legs. Make some “sticks” for each hand, and use hot glue to attach those sticks to some orange construction paper or cardstock flames. I am not a crafty person. I don’t have the patience for it, but when I saw that Olaf was one of the top costumes this year and that my kids were obsessed with him, I knew I needed to make an effort.

I bought a shirt from Amazon and got some felt from our local craft store. The shirt was a little big on my son, but I figured we could layer him up underneath so that worked out fine. Then I cut out the shapes for his head using the cardboard from my Amazon box as a template. We used hot glue to attach the eyes, mouth and carrot nose to the brown felt and then used the black felt for his eyebrows.

We took our frozen shirts, pants and shoes and painted them white with fabric paint. When they dried we added them to our DIY Olaf costume and had a blast!

The weather was perfect here in Seattle (60 degrees) so we went outside to take some pictures before trick or treating. We had such a great time taking pictures together as a family that we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Most costumes are easy to find, but what if you want to be something different? Maybe you don’t want to be a superhero or a princess. Maybe you want to be Olaf, the lovable snowman from Frozen. Here’s an idea for how to make your own Olaf costume.

First, get some white foam board (you can find it at any craft store). Cut out two circles for his body, two small triangles for his arms and some smaller circles for hands. For his face you should use yellow foam board, and for his eyes, mouth and eyebrows you can use black foam board. Glue them on with a hot glue gun or even some Elmer’s glue.

Next, get some white duct tape for the buttons down the front of his body. Get some black duct tape for the buttons along the sides of each arm.

Lastly, get a white sweatshirt and sweatpants so that you will be comfortable walking around in your costume all night long!
