If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I visited Disneyland the weekend before Halloween. The park was full of people wearing costumes! There were tons of princesses and superheroes running around, and it was so much fun to spot them all.
I love Halloween because it is such a creative holiday. Costumes can be a great way to show off your favorite characters from books, movies, or television shows. For example, a friend of mine recently went as Rapunzel from Tangled (one of my favorite Disney movies). She made her own wig using yarn and she even brought Pascal!
If you love to read or watch movies or television, I think you should consider making a costume based on one of your favorite characters this year. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive–my friend made her Rapunzel costume out of things she already had in her closet. You could even make something simple like a wizard’s hat or an elf’s cloak out of felt or fleece.
If you love books, why not go as Katniss from The Hunger Games? If you’re into TV shows, maybe you could dress up as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Eleven from Stranger Things, or Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation

Since Halloween is just around the corner, I figured I would share a few photos of my Rapunzel costume. My sister and I decided to dress up as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Disney’s Tangled. Since we were short on money, I had to get creative with my costume. We visited the thrift store and purchased an old white shirt, brown vest, and brown pants for Flynn. For my hair, I used three long blonde wigs that I found in our dress up box. My mom made me the flower crown and my sister helped me sew the flowers onto my vest.
For Rapunzel’s outfit, we used a long white night gown from Walmart (about $10), purple fabric from Hobby Lobby ($5), purple ribbon from Hobby Lobby ($3), and lots of hot glue! My mom made the purple cape for me using a template she found online and then she sewed it on for me. This was my first time sewing something onto clothing so it was definitely a learning experience!
I love the way the costumes turned out and we had so much fun dressing up together at our church’s trunk or treat on Sunday!
