Building a Jack Sparrow costume is a lot of fun and it’s even better when you can save some money. My son wanted to be Jack Sparrow for Halloween and I wanted to help him make his own costume. We went to the store and looked at the costumes but they were all expensive so we decided to make our own.

We started by looking around on the internet for ideas and we found some great websites with instructions. I’ll tell you about those later. This website tells you how we made our costumes, shows pictures of my son dressed as Jack Sparrow and gives links to some great pirate sites I found while researching this project.

I hope you enjoy this site and find the information you’re looking for.

This instructable is a step-by-step guide for making your own Jack Sparrow cosplay costume. I made this costume in a little under a month, using mostly materials found at Goodwill, with the exception of the boots, which came from eBay.

The first step is to buy your supplies. I made a list of all the things I needed, including quantities and prices for each item. Some items ended up being more expensive than I thought, so I recommend budgeting about $100 more than you think you will need.

I decided to be Jack Sparrow for Halloween. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a costume so I decided I would make my own, which ended up costing me about $70 and took me a total of about 10 hours to complete.

I went to the thrift store first and bought a pair of black pants and a shirt for $7. Then I went to Walgreens and bought some red and yellow fabric paint ($2), an eye patch from the toy section ($1), and some bandannas ($2) from the dollar section.

I started by dying my pants black with the fabric dye. I left them in overnight and they turned out really black!

I wanted to make it look like I had worn the shirt forever so I put it in the washer then dryer without detergent or dryer sheets. Then I grabbed my sandpaper (about $3) and went at different parts of the shirt, especially around the collar and sleeves where wear is common.

Next, I drew on some lines with a pencil (which you can’t see after you paint over it). I used fabric paint ($2) in red, yellow, blue and white. The paint is easy to work with but takes awhile to dry so

Jack Sparrow, the pirate of the Caribbean, is a favorite Halloween costume. I found some very cheap material to make this Jack Sparrow costume. I only spent around $20 total on the whole costume.

The first thing you need is a gold chain. I found one in the jewelry section of Walmart for about $6. You can also put a small silver chain through it to add more detail to it.

Next you need an earring. I found one that was about 2 inches long and a blue plastic stone for about $3 at Walmart as well.

I got Captain Jack’s hat at a thrift store for only $3, but if you don’t have one available to you, there are many online stores that sell them as well.

The next item you will need is a wig and fake mustache/beard set. You can find this at Party City or any other party supply store online or in your area for about $10-$15 depending on where you buy it from.

Now all you need is his sword! If you want an authentic looking sword that is made of metal and wood, it will run you about $50, but if you want something more realistic looking, but plastic and less expensive, you can purchase one for about $15

First off, you need a shirt. I have a black and white striped shirt from Old Navy that works perfectly for it. If you don’t have one, I’m sure you can find something at a thrift store or similar places. You will also need some red material to make the sash and head scarf. You can buy this by the yard at any fabric store. You will also need some gold trim for the neckline. This can be found at any craft store in the ribbon section.

First, you need to make the sash. Measure around your waist and then cut enough fabric to go around your waist with an extra foot on each side (you want extra length so that you can tie the sash in front). Sew both ends of the strip of fabric together to make a loop. Next, take your gold trim and sew it down the middle of the sash to decorate it.

Next, you will want to make Jack’s head scarf. Cut two strips of red material that are about 3 inches wide and long enough to fit around your head with a little extra length (to tie it in front). Sew these together on one side so that they form a loop like the sash did above. Now, hem all four edges
