Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, because I love to dress up. And since I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, I decided that this year I would dress up as my favorite character – Hermione Granger. My daughter is going to be Hermione too, but with her school uniform on.
I bought the Gryffindor robe adult costume from HalloweenCostumes4U.com and it was so much fun! It’s well-made and looks just like the one worn in the movie, and my daughter and I were able to match. I also got a Hogwarts banner for my front door and a Harry Potter wand from the same site – these were the perfect accessories for my Gryffindor robe adult costume!

This is a fun costume to wear and once you have it, you will want to wear it to all sorts of events. You may want to add some of your own touches too. Since the release of The Sorcerer’s Stone there has been a lot of interest in the character of Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter books and movies. This popular character has certainly captured the imagination of girls everywhere.
I have decided that one year I will go as Hermione Granger for Halloween. I am going to start collecting articles and tips on how I can make my own Hermione Granger costume.

This is a very nice black robe for the price, even though it is not “official Harry Potter merchandise.” It looks like an adult-size version of the robes the kids wear in the movies. The back of the robe has a slit cut up the middle, so you can walk around easily. The sleeves are quite long and flare out a bit at the bottom to resemble real medieval robes. This is a good thing because it covers your hands when you raise your arms. The sleeves are attached to the body of the robe with elastic, so they stay on if you have to take them off. There are two fake leather ties that you use to close the robe at your neck. I’m only 5’2″ and I had to tuck in about four inches of fabric under the belt in order for it to fall past my knees (as in the pictures). I can’t imagine what someone taller than 5’5″ would do with all that extra material!
For Halloween or costume parties, you can dress like Hermione Granger. You will need a school robe and shoes. You may also want to carry a wand, have a book tucked under your arm, and put on a pair of glasses.
Step 1: Get a long black school robe, either with an attached hood or one that is separate. The Gryffindor color is burgundy and yellow (gold). The robe should be ankle length or longer.
Step 2: Put on a white shirt underneath the robe. Make sure it is long enough to show below the hem of the robe. Wear a light-colored skirt or pants underneath the robe as well.
Step 3: Wear black socks and black shoes that are comfortable for walking in. A pair of sneakers will work best for walking around in during trick-or-treat night.
Step 4: Carry a wand with you wherever you go–Hermione always has hers on hand. You can purchase an authentic Harry Potter wand from many stores, or make one yourself out of cardboard and paint it dark brown or black.
Step 5: Carry a Harry Potter book with you at all times—Hermione is always reading something! If you do not have any Harry Potter books handy, carry around any book

This is a super easy tutorial that you can follow step by step to create Hermione Granger’s robe from Harry Potter. All you need is a red sweatshirt and a patch with the letter “G”, plus your wand, and some great accessories to make your look even more authentic. While you can buy your own, we made ours by sewing together two pieces of red fleece (1 yard each) into the shape of an upside-down “U.” We added felt lining to prevent fraying and used iron-on letters for the letter “G.”
