How To Be The Movers and Shakers In Your Kids’ Costumes This Halloween

Whether you’re a boy or a girl, the act of dressing up is still one of the most fun things to do in your kids’ lives. Halloween is an event that all kids look forward to, and it’s also a great opportunity for you as parents to get into the spirit of the season with them.

But how can you be a part of this creativity? You might want to try making some costumes together (more on that later), but simply having fun and being able to see your kids’ creativity on display is sure to bring a smile to your face.

To help you get started, here are some costume ideas for kids:

1. Superheroes – There’s nothing quite so cool as getting dressed up as one of your favorite superheroes for Halloween. If you have young children, then there are many options available as far as superhero costumes go. For example, Spiderman is one of the most popular choices for boys, thanks in part to his appearance in the recent blockbuster movie “The Amazing Spiderman”. Other superhero costumes include Superman, Batman and Robin Hood.

2. Princesses – For little girls who love to play dress-up, princess costumes are always a big hit during Halloween parties. Whether they want to be Snow White or Cinderella or

Halloween is the first holiday that kids truly get to own. Why do we love it so much? Because we have the amazing opportunity to make our kids dreams come true by creating a costume that they have always wanted. That’s why this Halloween, my family is taking our costumes a step further and becoming part of the show.

In our house, my wife and I are complete nerds for all things Disney (at times, I believe we are even more excited than our daughter). So when she decided she wanted to be Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty for Halloween, of course we jumped at the chance to help her fulfill her dream (and channel mine as well). But in order to make her look like a real princess, we needed some help.

My wife found the perfect princess dress on amazon.com with free shipping (for Prime Members) and it was here three days later! She got an adorable bag for trick or treating and completed her costume with a shiny tiara. Although she looked like royalty head-to-toe, something was missing: the Maleficent costume!

One great thing about dressing up as characters from “Sleeping Beauty” is that there are other opportunities for Mom or Dad to join in on the fun! If you

Is your child feeling more like a witch than a princess this Halloween? Or is she planning to be the wicked fairy from Sleeping Beauty? Or maybe they are more into the whole “dark angel” look? Whatever they decide, you can make it happen.

The easiest way to make sure your child has the perfect costume for Halloween is to let them design it themselves. If they want to be a dark fairy, then you can help them with wings and the basic costume, and let them figure out how to add all the “dark” elements. You can also let them pick out their own accessories at a store. They might even see something that works better than what you would have thought of yourself!

For example, if your daughter wants to be a dark fairy, you can pick up some black wings and black fabric at the craft store and make a simple dress. But when you get to the store, they may find some cool purple or blue fabric that they think looks even better.

“Mom, I want to be a tiger this year for Halloween.”

“That sounds great! How about I buy you a costume?”

“No mommy. I want to make my own!”

Oh boy. Here we go. I have a very creative and imaginative daughter who wants to make her own costumes every year. Every year, it’s something different and she creates the most elaborate plans on paper.

I’m all for creativity but as a mom, it becomes a bit stressful. First of all, I have no idea how to make these costumes. And second of all, they always require things that you’d never believe; such as: ground up mummy bones from the tomb of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Okay, maybe not that but close enough!

So my kids are always coming up with these elaborate ideas and I’m left wondering how in the world am I going to pull this off? So what do we do? We go online! That’s right; we turn to the internet for answers!

I think that is why blogs in general are so popular today because people want advice on how to do things or even just want someone else’s opinion on it. It’s nice to see that there are others like us out there going

Being the parents of a little one, you know the struggle of trying to get them to do something they don’t want to do.  It’s not easy to get them moving and shaking and doing what we want them to do, especially when it comes to Halloween costumes.  But what all parents don’t know is that there are ways to make your kid feel as though they are in charge of their costume, while also getting what you want.  What we mean by this is that your little angel can feel like they have chosen their costume, while you are secretly pulling the strings.  For example, if you want your little girl to dress up as Maleficent from the movie Sleeping Beauty, all you need to do is ask if she would like to be Princess Aurora or Maleficent for Halloween.  Of course she will say that she wants to be Princess Aurora because she loves her pink dress (who doesn’t!).  But all you need to do is tell her how beautiful Maleficent looks with her purple dress and horns and magic wand!  By doing this she should start asking questions about Maleficent and will soon want your help putting together a costume.

Once your child has chosen a character that they want

If you’re a parent, chances are you’ve seen the movie, Maleficent. If you haven’t, get on that STAT. It’s by far one of my favorite Disney movies ever. I remember watching Sleeping Beauty when I was a kid and thinking “Man, Maleficent is so cool!” She’s the villain of the movie, and yet she’s just so awesome!

Now there’s a whole new generation of kids who are enamored with this character. She’s fierce, she brings on some serious attitude, and really…she has the best costume of all time. I mean, if you could choose to dress up as any character for Halloween, why wouldn’t you want to be Maleficent?

When we first saw this costume in store last Halloween, my then four year old declared that she wanted nothing more than to be Maleficent. My heart melted a little bit at her request. But it also made me nervous: how would we make an amazing costume like that? Should we just buy the costume? How do we make sure it looks good?

I decided to take matters into my own hands and came up with a DIY plan based off of what I knew from cosplay and from my experience reading lots of blogs

Why spend hundreds of dollars on Halloween costumes when you can make them yourself? Here’s how to get creative and have fun with your kids.

Start With A Theme

If you’re going to be a character from a film, you need to know how the characters dress. Once you’ve got that sorted out, you’ll have an easy time creating the costume.

You need to plan a theme for your costume early on. It will help guide your search for materials and accessories.

Make It A Family Affair

It’s easier to come up with ideas when you involve other members of your family. You can all brainstorm together and come up with something unique and entertaining. It’s also a good way to build strong family bonds and teach children the importance of teamwork.

Put Your Sewing Skills To Use

You can recycle old clothes by tearing them apart, sewing them together, or using pieces as patterns for new ones. The possibilities are endless. If you don’t know how to sew or knit, this is the perfect time to learn!
