How To Make affordable Halloween Costumes

If you’re like most people, you don’t have a lot of time on your hands for Halloween costume preparation. After all, there’s a lot to do in the month of October – parties to plan, food to prepare, scary movies to watch and little kids to take trick or treating. With all that going on, who has time for sewing and other costume-making activities? You do, if you make your own costumes from consumer friendly materials such as those found at fabric stores and other material-crafting places.

Halloween costumes are fun year round. Putting together the perfect ensemble requires not only creativity but also planning ahead. If you live in a major city with diverse neighborhoods, you’ll probably be able to find plenty of costume making supplies without having to go too far out of your way. Here are three ideas that will help get your creative juices flowing:

A costume shop sells masks, wigs and accessories for all occasions. These shops offer everything from simple make up kits to elaborate costumes complete with face paint and accessories such as fake teeth or fangs and noses. Most of these stores are open year round because they also sell Christmas decorations along with Halloween supplies. Check out their web sites for seasonal sales where they put out holiday-specific items such as Santa

Halloween is the time of year when people can be what they want to be. For example, you can be a ghost, or a character from your favorite movie. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are planning to spend $3.1 billion on costumes in 2015. That’s a lot of money! The truth is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to look great on Halloween. In fact, you can make your own costume for next to nothing!

Let’s take Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians as an example. First, let’s look at how much this costume costs ready-made:

Cruella De Vil Adult Costume: $51.99 at Amazon

Cruella De Vil Wig: $20.99 at Target

Black Fishnet Tights: $8.99 at Party City

Black Pumps: $31 at Payless Shoe Store

Total Cost for a Cruella De Vil Costume: $112.97!

That’s insane! You could buy over three pumpkin pies instead! Let’s see how cheap we can make this costume using materials found in a fabric store and craft supplies store.

Affordable Halloween Costumes: Cruella DeVil

Hi! Welcome to my first DIY Halloween costume blog! This will be a series of blog posts on how to make your own Halloween costumes using things you can find in any fabric store and/or at craft stores. These costumes are all inspired by movies, television shows, comic books, video games, and more.

For this first post, I will be showing you how to make a Cruella DeVil costume from the movie 101 Dalmatians!

What you will need for this costume:

– Black & white fabric (or plain white fabric if you want to paint your own spots)

– Red fabric (I used some red ribbon)

– White faux fur (for the collar)

– White wig

– Red shoes (should look similar to the ones in the picture below)

If you have no planned Halloween costume and are still looking for ideas, this is the post for you! This Cruella de Vil costume can be made very easily and inexpensively.

To make the Cruella de Vil costume, I started off with a plain white sweater, skirt, and necklace. I knew I wanted to make them black and white so I bought some extra fabric at Jo-Ann’s. The fabric I chose was a stretchy polyester blend which made it very easy to sew.

The first thing I did was trace out the shape of the Dalmatian spots onto the fabric using a sharpie. Once I had that done, I was able to cut them out and pin them onto my sweater to see how they lined up. Then, once everything was how I liked it, I sewed them on with a sewing machine.
