The first thing we notice about Princess Leia’s costume is that it is an almost exact replica of the white gown worn by Queen Amidala in Star Wars Episode I (with a few notable exceptions). This gown was also worn in Episode II. Both characters are strong women who fight against injustice, and both costumes convey a sense of authority.

The most striking features of Princess Leia’s costume are its large, flowing sleeves, and its asymmetrical lines. The gown has only one sleeve on the left arm, which is attached to a cape that drapes over the right side of the body and trails behind her. The right arm is bare except for a large armband made of flexible metal. The armband has two lights coming out of it, as well as a small earpiece with a wire running down to her belt. Both the cape and armband have some sort of insignia on them, which may indicate rank or affiliation within the Rebel Alliance.
