So you want to be a Dino Girl? Dinosaur costume tutorial blog.

I’m going to show you how to construct an awesome dinosaur costume that will terrify your friends and family, or at least make them laugh so hard they pee their pants!

So you want to be a Dino Girl? I know you do. You probably already have the headpiece, now you just need the rest. Never fear, your favorite Dino Girl is here!

I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s easy, or that it will come out perfectly on your first try. It won’t. Mine didn’t. But don’t give up! If I can do it, so can you. Here are my step-by-step instructions for making a dinosaur costume in your own home.

First you need to find a pattern for your costume. You can use any basic jumpsuit pattern, but make sure it’s got a hood and mittens that are attached to the sleeves. This is really important! You don’t want to be trying to hold your hood on with one hand while holding up your tail with the other at a convention. Trust me on this one…

Once you’ve found a pattern and purchased some fabric (or better yet, found some lying around the house!) head over to your nearest craft store and purchase some stuffing for the tail and feet. A little goes a long way here, so don’t buy more than you need unless you’ve got another project in mind…

So you want to be a Dino Girl?

Dino Girl is a unique yet simple costume, which makes it perfect for any age of girl.

Dress in dark colors: black, blue, green, brown, or grey. (I used black.)

Wear an oversized t-shirt. (I used a black hoodie sweatshirt with the hood up.)

Tuck in the shirt and wear a belt to define your waistline.

Stuff the shirt with newspaper or white fabric to create a dinosaur belly.

Make a tail out of fabric or stuffed paper bags from the grocery store. You could use any color. I chose pink because I think Dino Girls are kind of silly and cute and not scary at all! Attach the tail to your belt with safety pins so it will hang down behind you. Make sure it isn’t too long or it might drag on the ground and get dirty.

Hi, I’m Tina and I want to be a Dino Girl! I’ve been dying to be a dinosaur since my dad took me to Jurassic Park when I was 8 years old. For the last 15 years, I’ve been collecting dinosaur models, reading books on dinosaurs, and watching documentaries about dinosaurs.

Last year, it hit me that if I really wanted to be a dinosaur, there was nothing stopping me. The problem was that I didn’t know how to make a dinosaur costume. The solution? Build one!

In this blog, I’ll show you how to make a dinosaur costume using basic crafting skills and materials. Follow along and you’ll be working on your own dinosaur costume soon!

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s…Dino Girl?

Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly the best superhero name in the world, but that doesn’t change the fact that these dinosaur costumes are absolutely adorable! My sister and I made three of them for Halloween last year and they were such a big hit we’ve been asked to make dinosaur costumes for several other children (and one adult!) over the past few months.

Take a look at this dinosaur costume! I made it for my son’s 5th birthday last year. It only cost $10 and took me about an hour to make. He loved it, and I did too. What’s not to love about a cute little boy in a dinosaur costume?

I love the idea of making this into a tutorial. This was just a quickie for his birthday, so I didn’t take many pictures as I went along. But I’ll try to explain the process as best as I can. Sorry if it’s not perfect!

You will need:

1 yard gray fleece

1 yard gray felt

Scraps of green and black felt (for claws)

Hot glue gun or fabric glue

Fiberfill stuffing or plastic bags

First, cut out the following pattern pieces (click here to download):

Cut two dinosaur bodies from the gray fleece and one body from the gray felt. Cut four fin/arm pieces from both the fleece and the felt. The legs are two rectangles measuring about 9″ x 10″. The tail is a long skinny rectangle that is folded in half lengthwise and sewn closed. Sew all of these pieces together with right sides facing and leaving an opening for turning (I

Now that you have all your parts, assemble them! This step is easy if you have a sewing machine, but if you don’t (like me) it’s still easy. Just sew the pieces together with a needle and thread. If you want to be extra fancy or make it last longer, use double-thread, tie a knot in the end of each string, and sew both strings through the fabric at once. I sewed the tail first, being careful not to let the stuffing show through when I sewed up the opening. Then I sewed on all the spikes and added some more stuffing as needed.

Next I sewed on the arms and then worked on sewing up the body. My zipper was too long for my pillow cover, so I had to sew around it a little bit to shorten it. When I got to my zipper, I did my best to just sew right over it with my needle and thread (no backstitch). It made it so that my dino can still open her mouth!

Finally, I hand sewed the head onto my dino’s body. To do this I lined up the top of her head with an edge of my pillow cover and then pinned it in place. Then I just carefully stitched
