Top 5 Video Games of 2014

Top 5 Video Games of 2014: A blog in a top ten list form that discusses various video games.

1. Mario Kart 8

2. Watch Dogs

3. Destiny

4. Dragon Age: Inquisition

5. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

It’s been a long time coming but finally we are approaching the end of 2014, and with that comes my Top 5 Video Games of 2014! Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion and I am very much aware that many of you will disagree with some or all of the choices here. But I still think it is worth writing about, because if there is one thing that brings people together, it’s our love for video games.

Before we get started, let me just say that there have been many great games released in 2014. It was hard to choose just five favorites, so these are not necessarily the best games released this year – just the ones I personally enjoyed the most. With that out of the way, let’s get to it!

The year is coming to a close, and it’s time for everyone to start making their lists. This year has been a good one for gamers and there were some stellar releases this year. I’m going to break down my top 5 games for the year, but before I get started, I want to make a few honorable mentions.

Honorable Mention: Wolfenstein: The New Order: Wolfenstein was just on the cusp of making the list. It’s an awesome game that has you gunning down Nazi’s, but it’s not as great as the other games on my list. The gameplay is fun and frantic and there are some set pieces that are truly stunning. Wolfenstein is definitely worth picking up if you love FPS games.

Honorable Mention: Mario Kart 8: Another game that almost made the cut is Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 8 has its issues with laggy online play and heavy rubberbanding, but it’s still a ton of fun to play. Plus, we’re finally getting 200cc mode in an update this month! If you’re looking for something that can be enjoyed with your friends, Mario Kart 8 will serve you well.

Honorable Mention: Super Smash Bros.: Nintendo really knocked it out of the park

As we approach the end of 2014, it’s time to start thinking about what games were the best this year. 2014 has been a great year for gaming with many different titles coming out on many different systems. This list is based on my personal opinion and and what games I enjoyed playing.

5. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze- Wii U

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is a 2D side scrolling platformer that was released in February of this year. It’s a challenging game that makes you use your brain as well as your reflexes to make it through each level. Not only is it an extremely fun game to play, but it looks absolutely gorgeous with bright colors and amazing animation. The characters are all very likable and the music is outstanding (some of my favorite songs are from this game). Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is a must play for anyone who owns a Wii U or enjoys platformers in general.

4. South Park: The Stick of Truth- Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC

I am a huge fan of South Park, so I was really excited when I found out they were making a video game based on the show, especially when Obsidian was developing it. South Park: The Stick of Truth may be one

1. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

2. Destiny

3. Destiny: The Taken King

4. Super Smash Bros for Wii U

5. Far Cry 4

Video games have been around since the early 70s, and they were first played on computers that filled an entire room.

The games were not designed to bring fun to the player. Instead, they were programs used by computer pioneers to test the capabilities of their creations. It was not until later on when video games started being made for entertainment purposes.

Today, video games are one of the biggest forms of entertainment, rivaling even movies and music. In fact, in 2008, video game sales beat movie sales for the first time ever. It’s estimated that more than 1 billion people play video games worldwide.

Here is a list of what I believe are the top 5 best video games of all time:

A modern-day adventure game with a classic point-and-click feel, Broken Age follows two protagonists: Vella Tartine and Shay Volta. Vella is a young woman who has been chosen as a sacrifice for Mog Chothra, the monster that has terrorized her village for years. Shay is a young man who has grown tired of being sheltered from the outside world by his mother. Both characters go on dangerous quests to find out how to break free from their situations.

Broken Age was funded through Kickstarter over two years ago and has finally been released in its entirety. The game features voice acting by Elijah Wood and Jack Black, among others, as well as dozens of unique and interesting puzzles.
