Captain Marvel is the name of several superheroes appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was originally known as Ms. Marvel when she made her debut during the Silver Age of comics, from 1967 to 1977. Later on, she also went by other names such as Binary and Warbird before finally settling on Captain Marvel. Her powers include superhuman strength and durability, flight and energy projection.
The first character to use the name Captain Marvel was Mar-Vell of the Kree in December, 1967. He gained his powers after being exposed to Kree technology. In July 2012, Carol Danvers became the new Captain Marvel when she was given a new costume and upgraded powers after being exposed to a fusion of alien Kree and human genes.
In February 2013, Carol Danvers was promoted to Captain Marvel and became an Avenger after rescuing Iron Man from Aldrich Killian and defeating him as he attacks Air Force One during President Matthew Ellis’ speech on the Superhuman Registration Act.
