The first and most obvious reason to choose a Harry Potter costume is that children love them. Kids who have read the books and watched the films are obsessed with dressing up as their favorite characters, including Harry, Ron, Hermione and even Dumbledore. You can find all of these items at your local costume store or on Amazon. A word of advice: make sure to buy a licensed costume if you care about quality.
If you want to go the DIY route, you’ll need to find the right accessories like a wand, glasses and a robe. All of these items can easily be found at thrift stores or party shops in your area.

Now you will need to get a lightning bolt scar make up pencil or tattoo. You can also use face paint if you don’t want to spend money on a pencil or tattoo. A lot of people make their own scar using latex, but it’s really hard to make it look good, so I just recommend buying something that looks like a scar from the store (or maybe from amazon).
Next you will need glasses. You can buy these at any eyeglass store and they will be able to fit them for you so they don’t fall off of your face all night long while you’re trick or treating with your kids. It’s also fun to wear them around town after Halloween too!

If you’re anything like me, November 1st, 2015 is a day you’ve been looking forward to for the past year and a half: the release of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While it may not be a Harry Potter book, and it may not be about Harry Potter himself, it’s still a movie based on J.K Rowling’s beloved wizarding world and that’s enough for me!

For example, Luna Lovegood is an excellent choice because she may not have been in any of the movies yet, but she is still very recognizable due to her unique, dreamy personality and her odd sense of style. You can also choose one of the many characters who have only been mentioned in passing so far in the books, like Cedric Diggory or Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth.
