Saving The World A Dress At a Time

Saving The World A Dress At a Time: Impress your friends with this Kim Possible inspired dress.

Well, I’m not one to brag but it’s kind of a big deal! Remember when Kim Possible started wearing her signature mission outfit? This dress is nearly identical to the one she wore. The dress features the same green and black colors as well as a silver zipper down the front and a silver belt. The only difference is that Kim’s design had long sleeves and this one has short sleeves with finger loops.

A few things you should know about this dress… This dress is made from stretchy, thick spandex fabric. It has great four-way stretch so it can accommodate any body type. It’s very comfortable to wear (you might even forget you have it on). You can sit or kneel in it without worrying about ripping the fabric. Because of its thickness, it does not require a slip underneath. You can also pull it off easily by unzipping it from the front!

Supplies:

5/8 yard of red cotton fabric

3/4 yard of blue cotton fabric

1/2 yard of black cotton fabric

3/8 yard of blue knit fabric

1/4 yard of yellow knit fabric

thread in matching colors (red, blue, black, gold)

sewing machine and overlock machine (optional)

fabric scissors and paper scissors

pins and needles (optional)

A Kim Possible inspired dress that is made from a plaid shirt and a black skirt. It’s easy and fast to make, and it’s great for Halloween costumes, cosplay, or just everyday wear.

Step 1: Materials

a white button-down shirt (preferably with a collar)

a black skirt (any length will do)

Step 2: Cutting The Shirt

Cut the shirt so that it ends at the bottom of your ribcage. Remove the sleeves and cut them into small strips; these will be used for the belt. You should now have a tube-like shape of fabric with shoulder straps.

For Halloween this year, my daughter decided she wanted to be Kim Possible. Not too surprising as she had been telling me almost daily how much she loves Kim. I was a little surprised though when she told me that she wanted to dress up in character for her school Halloween party. I am not the type of mother who would have time to make a full costume like that and keep it a secret from her. She would have known and probably even helped me make it (which would have killed the surprise).

I decided to make her a dress that Kim would wear on one of her more formal missions. This was what we came up with:

I made the pattern for this myself, but if you are interested in making your own, you can find the tutorial here:

So you want to be Kim Possible for Halloween, or just for fun? You came to the right place! The dress I made here is similar to the dress Kim wears in “Emotion Sickness”.

What You’ll Need:

1. A red (or pink) t-shirt. I used a red long sleeve shirt for mine and it worked out fine.

2. Black fabric paint

3. Fabric glue

4. A black skirt or pair of pants

5. A white belt with a gold buckle (I used an old gold and white belt)

6. A black and red hair bow (you can make one, like I did, or buy one and glue it to a barrette).
